We'll find out for sure very soon, but for now, let's review the most popular theories.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31. One of the most intriguing aspects of the upcoming movie is the role of Sadie Sink, star of Stranger Things – the creators are keeping the identity of her character under wraps.

We're looking into the most compelling theories.

Is It Jean Grey?

According to the most popular fan theory, Sadie Sink will play a young Jean Grey, a key character in the X-Men universe. Earlier, Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner have portrayed the mutant with telepathic and telekinetic abilities.

After Disney acquired the X-Men franchise, it found itself at a crossroads, and rumors of a recast intensified. Being a natural redhead, Sink fits the canon perfectly, and her athletic training confirms her suitability for action scenes.

This theory is fueled by rumors that Disney producers intend to recast the entire X-Men franchise. However, Jean Grey and Spider-Man rarely crossed paths in the original comics, which significantly reduces the likelihood of the mutant appearing in a Peter Parker movie.

Is It Gwen Stacy?

Another popular theory claims that Sadie Sink will play Gwen Stacy, Peter Parker's first high school crush. The character has a rather short and tragic onscreen history: she dies falling during a confrontation between Peter and Norman Osborn.

Bryce Dallas Howard played Stacy in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, and Emma Stone played her in Marc Webb's duology. Unlike MJ, Gwen is blonde – this could easily be remedied with a wig, so Sink's red hair may be a marketing ploy to confuse fans.

One thing remains unclear: why did the actress train so intensely before filming if Stacy doesn't have superpowers in the comics?

Is It Rachel Summers?

Another noteworthy theory suggests that Sadie Sink will play Rachel Summers, the daughter of Jean Grey and Scott Summers/Cyclops from an alternate future.

In the comics, the redheaded Rachel is an alpha-level mutant with telekinesis, telepathy, and the ability to travel through time. Disney has made it clear that they will reboot the X-Men franchise, and it's possible that the studio will focus on a new generation of mutants.

In that case, Rachel's inclusion would make sense, even though the character is too niche for a multimillion-dollar blockbuster.

Is It Adriana Soria?

After the trailer premiered, fans learned more: a mysterious figure appears in the video, surrounded by a sinister aura and her face is hidden under a hood – some fans believe that Sink is playing this villain.

On Reddit, a popular theory suggests that Sadie has been cast as the Spider Queen, Adriana Soria – a woman who can control insects and humans with arachnid genetics.

Given the information about Peter's altered spider powers, this hypothesis seems viable.
