Recently seen in Netflix’s Ripley, Flynn is about to take on one of the most iconic roles in the Harry Potter universe, and the original actor approves.
It finally looks like Hogwarts Express is about to leave for the wizarding world again as HBO’s Harry Potter reboot series starts its first season’s production this week.
Officially announced a couple of years ago, the show was coming together for quite a long time, going through some major hardships with the casting process that lasted for months.
Now that the future reboot’s leading cast is already there to revive Harry Potter’s story, the movie franchise’s fans might be excited about several big stars joining the show, including Johnny Flynn who got himself a role just as big and important.
Johnny Flynn Will Play Lucius Malfoy in HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’
The actor’s casting was confirmed around a month ago, with more of his Harry Potter peers joining in later right ahead of the first season’s production start this month.
Mostly known for his roles of Dylan Witter in Netflix’s sitcom Lovesick and David Bowie in a 2020 biopic Stardust, Flynn could also be seen in the Anya Taylor-Joy-led period romantic comedy Emma and Netflix’s psychological thriller series Ripley starring Andrew Scott.
Jason Isaacs Gives His 100% Approval of Johnny Flynn’s Casting
Lucius Malfoy’s original actor who appeared throughout the movie franchise’s eight instalments, Isaacs was one of the first to react to Flynn’s casting news, reassuring fans that he definitely approves HBO’s choice.
“A fantastic actor, a lovely man and, irritatingly, a rather brilliant musician too. Couldn’t have handed the snake-topped baton on to anyone better. Just please don’t make him sing…” Isaacs wrote in a post published in his X account.
Just days later the actor addressed the issue again, expressing his hope that Flynn will be creative enough to come up with something unique and different in Lucius’ look for HBO.
“Since I came up with that particular look — the hair and the cane and the capes and all that stuff — I’m pretty sure Johnny is an original thinker, and he will go in another direction. I can’t wait to see what he does”, Isaacs shared in an interview with TheWrap back in June.
When Will ‘Harry Potter’ Season 1 Be Released?
The show’s first instalment has just started its production and is currently scheduled for a release sometime in 2027.
