Who is Agam in Avatar: Seven Havens? The kindly Ellora baker fooled everyone
For most of Avatar: Seven Havens, Agam's job was to stand in the background of Ellora and sell food.
The Paramount+ series premiered on October 9. It's set 225 years after The Legend of Korra, in Ellora, one of seven fortified cities built after a disaster called the Cataclysm. Pavi, a nine-year-old Earthbender, learns she is the Avatar in a city that blames the Avatar for the end of the old world, and her twin sister Nisha turns out to be one too. Episodes 7 through 9 arrived on October 23, and the last four episodes of Book 1 come out October 30.
Who Agam seemed to be
A cook and baker, voiced by Sakina Jaffrey, who turns up in nearly every episode. She was in the announced voice cast from the start, though Paramount+'s cast page gave no description of her role.
Her placement was the clue. She kept turning up in the background of earlier scenes, part of the city's daily life.
The Faceless
Ellora's other problem, besides storms and spirits, is a group of masked bandits called the Faceless:
- They slip into the city to steal food and cause trouble.
- In episode 4, they kidnap a member of the Bending Brigade, Ellora's drafted army of benders.
- They live underground and want to govern themselves, not live under Ellora's rules.
- The show sets up Zi, voiced by Dianne Doan, as their leader, the Faceless Queen. She isn't.
The real leader was hiding in plain sight, and so was at least one familiar face: Uki has been with the Faceless all along.
The reveal
It comes in the two-part "The Envoys," episodes 8 and 9. Leaders from Ellora, Akasha and New Ba Sing Se meet for a summit, and the Faceless attack it. Their queen is Agam.

She is also an earthbender, and a strong one, fighting with sand and mud. Nisha takes her on until a red, diamond-shaped Anomaly appears. In the panic, the Faceless get away.
The woman who fed Ellora was running the group that robbed it.
What she wants
Ellora's law says every bender must join the Brigade. Agam's father was a bender, and he was forced into it. She built the Faceless in response, and her plan is to lead them out of Ellora entirely, to a place called Republic Forest.

The name points straight back to The Legend of Korra, whose main setting was Republic City. Whatever stands there now, Agam believes it's a refuge worth leaving the havens for.
But Why Tho's Swara Salih wrote in a review that "we see in Agam a deeper exploration of a working-class woman."
The show hasn't said whether Agam escaped with the Faceless after the summit. The four remaining episodes of Book 1 arrive October 30.
