Who is Annie's biological father in Sterling Point?
Season 1 of Prime Video's Sterling Point spends eight episodes taking a family apart, and it answers almost every question it raises about who fathered whom. Almost.
Annie Jacobson's biological father is not identified. She and her twin brother Connor were adopted as newborns, neither birth parent is named on screen, and the season closes without revealing either. The paternity twist everyone talks about concerns Ramona, not Annie.
The bit people get muddled
Annie (Ella Rubin) and Connor (Keen Ruffalo) were adopted by Steven (Jay Duplass) and Goldie, and told the adoption happened because their parents couldn't conceive. That story collapses when Annie arrives on the island and meets 16-year-old Ramona (Amélie Hoeferle), who is unmistakably Goldie's biological daughter.
For most of the season, Ramona's father looks like Joe (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). The circumstantial case is strong: he was Goldie's high-school sweetheart, they reconnected when she came home, and he drove her to hospital the night she died. He's also Ellis's dad, and was named Ramona's guardian in Gordon's will.
Then Annie mentions in passing that she used to sort her father's sock drawer because he's colour-blind. Ramona is colour-blind too. She talks Steven into a DNA test, and it comes back positive.
The family tree, straightened out
- Goldie — Annie and Connor's adoptive mother, Ramona's biological mother. Died giving birth to Ramona from an undiagnosed heart condition, not the cancer Steven told the twins about.
- Steven — Annie and Connor's adoptive father and Ramona's biological father. He knew Ramona existed and kept the two halves of the family apart for 16 years.
- Ramona — legally Annie's sister, biologically no relation to her whatsoever.
- Gordon — Goldie's father, who raised Ramona alone on the island. His death, and his will leaving Sterling Point to all three siblings, starts the series.
- Annie and Connor's birth parents — unnamed, unseen, and unresolved.
The call Connor takes
Behind Annie's back, Connor contacts the adoption agency. In the closing stretch of the season he's told their birth mother is willing to meet them. The season ends before we learn anything about her — including whether Connor tells Annie at all.
By then the sisters have effectively swapped lives: Ramona heads to New York with Steven and Connor, Annie stays on the island.
Will season 2 answer it?
Prime Video renewed the show on 20 August 2026, two weeks after its 5 August debut. Creator Megan Park told Entertainment Weekly in 2026 that the material is deliberately stacked up:
"There's a lot of mommy and daddy issues being threaded throughout the show."
Park has also flagged a second, less romantic question hanging over the property: what happens when Ramona turns 18. She's floated a time jump to the following summer, though she told The Wrap in 2026 that it still has to be agreed with co-showrunners Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage.
For the record: unlike most of Prime Video's teen slate, Sterling Point isn't adapted from a novel. Park wrote it from her own childhood summers in Muskoka and from adoption in her family — specifically, she told the LA Times in 2026, she wanted a character who had no particular urge to go looking for her biological parents. Which may be why Annie still hasn't.
