One of the main antagonists in The Sandman, The Corinthian might have become everyone’s favourite thanks to Netflix’s TV adaptation. Here’s everything you need to know about the character and his background story.

Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” might have introduced quite many good characters on the way, but there’s no one most of the fans would fall harder for than a well-written villain.

Loosely based on numerous myths and legends, the original comic book series, just like any superhero-ish story, has always been about the good and the bad, primarily following the Endless family that takes control of several essential aspects of humanity’s life.

However, things became much more complicated and intriguing when the Corinthian was introduced in both the comic books and Netflix’s TV series, and the latter might have done an even better job in this regard.

Who Is The Corinthian in ‘The Sandman’?

In both the original source material and TV show, the Corinthian is one of the main antagonists and basically a nightmare created by Dream with a purpose of being some sort of a “black mirror” that would reflect people’s darkness they refuse to admit.

What might have become the most intriguing and yet most disturbing detail in the Corinthian’s physical appearance is his lack of eyes which are substituted by rows of small teeth he’s trying to hide behind sunglasses.

However, the Corinthian doesn’t seem to be bothered by this in the slightest, proving that he’s still able to see and even drive around.

On top of that, he usually gets those eyes he lacks from his victims, taking their eyeballs out and placing them in his own eye sockets.

‘The Sandman’ Fans Are Gushing Over Boyd Holbrook’s The Corinthian

The actor, also known for one of the leading roles in Netflix’s Narcos, was first introduced as the Corinthian in The Sandman’s first season, immediately joining the list of the television’s most unhinged villains that fans are secretly rooting for.

“He was perfectly cast in the show, imo - I loved the way the actor used his face to convey so much without his eyes. He seemed to show his teeth a lot while talking, too, which was a fun/creepy reminder of what’s really behind those glasses!” Redditor PersisPlain commented in a show-related thread.

“I wasn’t too fond of the Corinthian in the comics, but the show sold me completely. God damn is he charming. Couldn’t help but root for him slightly”, rrrrrrredalert chimed in.

“I didn’t expect him to be SO charming. Like wow. I thought I would be stronger, but there was something just so captivating about him. Especially at that speech. My jaw dropped”, another user revealed.

Will The Corinthian Return in 'The Sandman' Season 2?

Judging by the trailer for the second part of Season 2, we may expect Holbrook's character to return. In the teaser for Volume 2, The Corinthian, whom Dream defeated in the first season, returns from dust and says that he awaits a command. It's unclear whether he speaks with Morpheus directly.

When Will ‘The Sandman’ Season 2 Part Be Released?

The show’s final episodes will arrive on Netflix on July 24.
