Things have never been the same since the second episode of The Last of Us’ season 2, now bringing Ellie’s girlfriend Dina to the forefront instead of Joel.
With both now set to find Abby and bring her to justice after what she did to Joel, Ellie and Dina strengthen their bond while in Seattle, which paves the way for Dina to become an integral part of Ellie’s journey and future in both the original video game and the TV series.
Despite Dina’s character constantly getting praise from The Last of Us’ fans, not much has been said about Dina’s actress who you might have seen somewhere else before — we’re here to make it right.
Who Is Dina and Who Plays Her in ‘The Last of Us’, Explained (Spoilers Ahead!)
Coming as one of the new protagonists in the show’s ongoing sophomore season, Dina is another survivor portrayed by American-Peruvian actress Isabela Merced.
The latter could recently be seen in a 2019 adventure comedy Dora and the Lost City of Gold, as well as in a 2024 romantic drama Turtles All The Way Down.
Raised by her older sister Talia after their parents died, Dina moved to Jackson soon after her sister’s death and not long before Ellie and Joel made it to the town.
At around the same time, she met Jesse and started dating him, eventually breaking up and getting back together with him several times before ending up with Ellie.

When Joel is beaten to death by Abby and her gang, Dina doesn’t hesitate to join Ellie on her journey to Seattle where Abby might be hiding; later, with the use of some leftovers in an abandoned local pharmacy, Dina finds out that she’s pregnant with Jesse’s child.
However, she continues the quest alongside Ellie until they’re forced to get back to Jackson after Jesse’s death.
What Will Likely Happen to Dina in ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Finale?
The final scene of the second season’s episode 6 might have just confirmed that Ellie finally reached her destination and is presumably about to enter the Seattle theatre where Abby is hiding.
Judging by the video game so far, nothing bad will happen to Dina, though she’ll suffer a major loss when Jesse is killed by Abby.
It’s not clear yet whether The Last of Us’ second season will end on this point, but the show will likely see Dina returning back to Jackson to live on a farm with Ellie until the latter decides to finish what she started and embarks on yet another hunt for Abby.
