In the original comic book series and the TV show, Johanna Constantine is introduced as a necromancer and successful occult adventuress for hire who in Netflix’s The Sandman is played by Jenna Coleman.
Johanna is a young and beautiful, yet stubborn and pretty cynical woman who might seem tough and distant from other people. However, underneath the mask of indifference she hides all the insecurities and guilt from some decisions of her past.
Still, it doesn’t make her any less powerful magician who can cast spells in different ancient languages and exorcise demons, returning them to hell.
Johanna Constantine and John Constantine Are the Same Blood From Different Universes
Since the original comic book series’ creator Neil Gaiman has repeatedly confirmed that The Sandman does share some parts of its universe with the DCU, it’s not that hard to guess who Johanna Constantine is related to.
Gaiman also revealed he had created the character as some kind of homage to Alan Moore, the creator of John Constantine portrayed by Keanu Reeves in the 2005 supernatural movie Constantine.
However, it’s not only the name and the roots that the two characters share, with The Sandman and DC’s fans taking notice of Johanna and John’s similar attitude.
