Who killed Lynne in A Remarkable Place to Die?
Consider this your flashing neon spoiler warning, because we are about to name names. If you're still mid-binge on Acorn TV, close the tab and come back later.
Everyone else: yes, the show does answer the question of who sent Lynne Mallory's car over the edge at Skippers Canyon, and no, the answer is not comforting. Let's walk through it.
The official story (which Anais never bought)
When Detective Anais Mallory (Chelsie Preston Crayford) comes home to Queenstown, her little sister's death is a closed file: Lynne went off the cliff at Skippers Canyon two years ago, ruled a tragic accident with a whiff of "maybe on purpose." Anais knew her sister wasn't a careless driver, so she quietly steals the case file in episode one and spends the season pulling threads nobody wants pulled.
Follow the money, babe
The threads all lead to one place: a meth operation run by Anais's ex-fiancé Luke Staunton with the delightful Snapes brothers. In the finale's confession scene, the whole ugly ledger opens up:
- Anais's father stumbled onto one of the labs, got paid for his silence, then wanted more — so Alan Souter and his brother killed him.
- Lynne was addicted to P (that's meth, for the non-Kiwis), which made her a walking liability to the operation.
- A flashback finally shows what "accident" meant: Lynne being run off the road at Skippers Canyon.
So who was behind the wheel?
Here's the gut-punch. Anais finds a $50,000 payment made the day after Lynne died, to someone coded in the books as "GL." She cracks it in real time: GL is "Gym Lady" — Maja, the fitness-studio owner, Anais's former best friend, and Luke's wife. The woman who spent the whole season doing sympathetic yoga poses was paid fifty grand for the night Lynne went over the cliff.
Luke lunges, Luke gets arrested, and then the show plays its final card: Maja turns up dead in the middle of the arts festival, murdered before anyone can put her in an interview room. Which means Lynne's killer never answered for it — and someone out there decided Maja needed silencing.
The loose end is now a whole season
That silencing is the engine of season two, which premiered September 13, 2026 on TVNZ 1 with an expanded six-episode run built around the Maja investigation. Creator Philly de Lacey has said the show's whole method is digging into Queenstown's little worlds to find
"where feuds come from and, ultimately, murders."
Translation: the person who killed the person who killed Lynne is out there, and I, for one, have my suspicions about everyone who's ever offered Anais a casserole.
