Buffyverse is expanding with the recent casting news. Who's going to become our next vampire slayer?
Buffy the Vampire Slayer revolutionized television as a whole. And now, two decades after the original series ended, Hulu is breathing new life into the franchise, with Sarah Michelle Gellar returning as Buffy.
“We've set up our offices, which means things are progressing probably faster than I'd anticipated,” Gellar said in an interview to People.
Indeed, the production moves fast. We already know our next slayer: Ryan Kiera Armstrong.

Armstrong's casting was confirmed through an Instagram post.
Many fans are glad that an unfamiliar face was cast. This will help establish Armstrong as her own character, separate from Sarah Michelle Gellar's iconic Buffy or Armstrong's own big roles.
“I am glad that they are having an unknown actor to be the new slayer (assuming that this is true),” Redditor Mountain-Fox-2123 wrote.
But while Armstrong might be a fresh face to some viewers, she's actually been building an impressive acting career since 2017, first gracing the screens as Minnie May Barry in Anne with an E. Her other memorable roles include: Young Antonia in Black Widow (2021), Charlie McGee in Firestarter (2022) and Fern in Star Wars: Skeleton Crew (2024-present).

While Sarah Michelle Gellar will return to guide the next generation, she's not going to serve as the main character. The series has attracted some serious talent behind the camera too, with Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao directing the pilot from a script by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman.
Armstrong will play an introverted high school student. And while the release date hasn't been confirmed yet, we're all looking forward to the new series.
