Who will return in SWAT Exiles? Two originals are confirmed — a third was slipped in with zero announcement
Shemar Moore promised a darker, edgier S.W.A.T. He did not promise a reunion. We're getting one anyway — including one return that the marketing department apparently decided to whisper into a void.
Let's set the scene. S.W.A.T. Exiles premiered September 25 on Starz — yes, Starz, the network of your mom's pirate romances — with Moore's Hondo dragged out of retirement to babysit an experimental unit of Gen Z recruits.
Moore, a man who has now survived more cancellations than most sitcom cats have lives, put it best in an interview with UPI:
"I told them they ain't getting rid of me unless they kill me and I know how to duck."
He also warned that this Hondo isn't the sunshine-and-tactical-vests version we knew: "His world is a little darker. His light is a little dimmer and he's trying to find a purpose." Great. Love a midlife crisis with a battering ram.
The two comebacks they actually announced
The officially blessed returns, trumpeted ahead of the premiere:
- Jay Harrington as Sergeant David "Deacon" Kay — guest role in the pilot.
- Patrick St. Esprit as Commander Robert Hicks — also in the pilot, presumably still radiating disappointed-dad energy.
Both cameos exist to hand Hondo's story off to the new show, and both were rolled out with the usual exclusive-announcement machinery.

The third one, aka the stealth Tan
And then there's the fun part. David Lim is back as Victor Tan — and that return was, as TVLine noted, dropped with roughly the fanfare of a software update. No trailer moment, no splashy exclusive. He's tucked into the back half of season one, in the penultimate episode.
Which is extra spicy, because Lim was the loudest voice calling out how the spinoff was handled in the first place. The series order landed two days after the original show's finale, and Lim went off on Instagram:
"It was tough to see it announced just two days after our finale — with no mention of the cast."
He said the OG crew felt "brushed aside when there could've been a moment of reflection and recognition." From publicly reading the franchise for filth to quietly filming a guest spot — that's the kind of arc the show itself should envy. However that peace deal went down, somebody's agent earned their ten percent.
