The actress is a newcomer in The Last of Us’ TV version, though she didn’t hesitate to expose Pedro Pascal’s Joel in the most frightening way possible — here’s how.

The first episode of The Last of Us season 2 is already a hot topic on social media, and there are several reasons to believe this installment might become even bigger than the previous one.

The Last of Us has already introduced several new characters who will likely play key roles in future episodes. One short scene with Catherine O’Hara’s Gail already has fans talking about it for many reasons, and the actress’ improvised powerful gesture is one of those.

Catherine O’Hara’s Subtle Move in the Therapy Scene Went Unnoticed

The new season’s first episode sees Joel struggling with Ellie’s refusal to have anything to do with him, which is why he opts for therapy sessions with Catherine O’Hara’s Gail, who might be the only one helping those in Jackson fight with their inner demons.

The session, however, quickly takes an unexpected direction when Gail confronts Joel for having killed Eugene, her husband of more than 40 years.

After Gail moves on to saying she despises Joel, the latter stands up, determined to leave — and this is where O’Hara’s improv comes in and makes her flinch, a move that not many fans managed to catch anyway.

How Gail Exposes Joel’s True Nature in The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 1, Explained by Craig Mazin

Even though Gail’s gesture isn’t that obvious and there’s nothing that indicates Joel’s intentions to cause her any harm, the scene was probably the most accurate representation of what Joel came to be for many other citizens in Jackson.

On top of that, the whole idea of Gail getting scared for a moment was O’Hara’s own idea.

“Look, he is a patient, and there is the sense that she has some power over him, because therapists have authority. But when he stands up, she reveals that he is also frightening to her, that she knows what he is capable of”, The Last of Us’ creator Craig Mazin revealed in an interview with Polygon after the episode’s premiere.

Where to Catch The Last of Us’ Next Episodes?

The second season’s next episode is scheduled to air on April 20. The remaining five episodes will be dropped on Max every Sunday until May 25.
