Will Ben Return in Heartstopper Movie?

Heartstopper is coming back. Netflix recently announced that the long-awaited chapter 4 is happening, but in the form of a full feature movie. The news caused quite a stir in social media, as the story is about to finally wrap up.

But now the question is, who will come back for the shortened finale? And it seems like Ben Hope is the one everybody wants to leave out. Again.

Why Don’t Fans Want Ben to Come Back?

Ben was an integral part of the show in seasons 1 and 2, serving as a tool to help Charlie grow. As his first crush, Ben completely destroyed Charlie's self-esteem and made him feel unlovable. However, when Nick came into the picture, Ben went out of the picture, and Charlie was able to heal in his new healthy relationship.

In season 3 Ben didn’t come back. And many fans were wondering what was the reason. Back then the show’s creator Alice Oseman explained that his arc was complete and there was no reason for his comeback.

Another question was whether Ben would really be left without a redemption arc. In episode 7 of season 2, there was an attempt to redeem him by having him apologize to Charlie. But the show's writers took the unusual route of not giving him an acceptance.

So it was only natural to assume that Ben won’t be coming back for the final chapter. And the fans couldn’t be happier.

“There would be no purpose to bring him back. Charlie made it very clear that he never wants to see or speak to Ben again. Looping him back in either means he’s contacting Charlie without his consent, or it means they’re going to shoehorn in some story where Charlie forgives Ben, which puts the emotional labor of forgiving his abuser on Charlie, and that’s not what this show is about,” Redditor Codyashi_maru said.
