Will Guillermo del Toro's 'Cabinet of Curiosities' Return for Season 2? The Answer Might Be Disappointing
Here's what Guillermo del Toro himself and his close collaborator think about the second season of the anthology series.
Three years have passed since Guillermo del Toro premiered his horror anthology on Netflix, and fans have been waiting for news of a possible second season.
Despite del Toro continuing to collaborate with Netflix on other projects, the future of Cabinet of Curiosities remains uncertain.
According to a close collaborator of the director, a second season isn't expected anytime soon.
Guillermo del Toro's Own Thoughts About Season 2 of 'Cabinet of Curiosities'
In late 2022, del Toro expressed his willingness to create new seasons but acknowledged the magnitude of the undertaking. In an interview with Collider, he admitted that producing the first season – which essentially consisted of eight short films in one year – was "really, really difficult."
The director emphasized his desire to give viewers another season and to give new, interesting directors a chance to shine. However, he also offered a candid warning:
“I know it would be very difficult. So anyway, if they say yes, we'll make the effort and do it.”
Dennis Berardi About the Director's Plans for 'Cabinet of Curiosities'

In a recent interview, Dennis Berardi – a frequent collaborator of del Toro's who worked with him on Cabinet of Curiosities and Frankenstein – responded evasively to a question about a potential second season:
“He talks about it every once in a while, but I don't know the answer. [...] I know he's writing a couple of new movies right now, and he's got, I think, 10 projects that he's considering.
I just don't know. Guillermo told me that he's really only looking to do projects where he is breaking new ground or something that he's afraid of.”
Based on this, Berardi draws a disappointing conclusion:
“I think the chances are it might not be on the hit parade. He's looking for, to use his expression, something that maybe gets him out of his comfort zone.”
