One of Game of Thrones’ essential families might be expected to show up during the war between the Targaryens in House of the Dragon’s season 3. Here’s why you shouldn’t wait for the Tyrells in the prequel series.

Even though there’s roughly two hundred years between House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones’ timelines, this is nothing in the Westerosi world.

The fantasy world in Game of Thrones centred on the wealthiest families that survived the turbulent times of the war between the Blacks and the Greens for the Iron Throne.

Throughout the original show’s eight seasons, House Tyrell plays a crucial role in some of the most important events’ outcome, though its family members haven’t yet got a single mention in House of the Dragon, despite already having a major influence at the time — and there’s a reason why.

House Tyrell Stays Neutral In the Dance of the Dragons

Just like in Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire”, no risk is taken for nothing in “Fire & Blood” too, with the Tyrells seeing no perspective for themselves from either side of the Targaryen war.

Even more to that, House Tyrell could have easily joined the Hightowers that they’ve long been neighbours with — the whole point is that the Tyrells do want their pretty abusive neighbour to fail as hard as possible.

In Martin’s books, it’s also implied that, due to several controversies that surrounded House Tyrell for many years, the Hightowers could also scheme against the Tyrells who rose to power ahead of the Hightowers’ long-standing allies.

As a result, the Tyrells being indifferent about the Targaryens’ war might easily be their refusal to help an actual enemy.

Despite This, House Tyrell May Become Important After the War in ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3

Since the Tyrells stay away from both sides of the imminent war, this will be considered as disobedience towards a monarch’s request, whether it’s Rhaenyra or Aegon II we’re talking about.

What puts the Tyrells in an even more complicated position is that the Dragonseed Ulf White demands that he become the lord of Highgarden, the territory that House Tyrell has had control of since Aegon I conquered Westeros and divided the land among all powerful houses.

In this case the Greens, who Ulf is about to support in the war now, will have a very specific reason to take the land away from the Tyrells, this way also bringing the family members to justice for not siding with them.

House of the Dragon’s season 3 is now expected to land on HBO Max sometime in 2027.
