The gruesome ending for Pascal’s character in The Last of Us’ latest episode caused some panic among the actor’s biggest fans, but there’s a reason to believe he isn’t going anywhere — here’s why.
It’s fair to say The Last of Us ’ season 2 episode 2 had fans of both the original video game and Pedro Pascal crying out loud, and some sobs might still be heard.
The episode titled Through the Valley marked the end of the ride for Pascal’s Joel whose good intention to save Abby from the horde of zombies played out quite tragically for him and Ellie.
Even though most of the show’s fans knew for sure what was coming, they likely didn’t expect this to happen so soon and Pascal to get off the screen right after the second episode.
However, the actor’s admirers can sleep well knowing that, ironically, his character’s death changes little in this regard.
Pedro Pascal Will Appear in The Last of Us Season 2 Further Episodes, Creators Confirm
Numerous heated discussions started right after the episode aired were full of heartbreaking revelations about fans’ reaction to Joel’s untimely ending.
Still, there was some place left for some concern about Pascal’s complete absence from the rest of the show now that his character is gone.
Luckily, this theory was soon debunked by The Last of Us’ creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann who promised “a good amount of Pedro and Bella together” even despite the latest events, just because “we all want it”.
“We do get to see them quite a bit together this season. And we also get to see interesting things happening with them — more, I think, than what we saw in season 1”, Craig said in an interview with TVLine.
He then also added that Joel and Ellie’s relationship in season 2 is “way more complicated — and, in its conclusion, just very resonant. It gives you a lot to think about and also has a beautiful note of hope running through it”.
“So, on behalf of all the Bella-and-Pedro stans out there, I’m here to say: Yes. A good amount is heading your way”, the writer concluded.

Even before Mazin and Druckmann confirmed the best news many fans have been waiting to hear, some could have got a clue about such an outcome right away from the episode itself.
The beginning of it sees Ellie and Jesse going out on patrol together, with the former revealing she wouldn’t mind going together with Joel despite the rest of the community ’s belief that the two are feuding.

She then makes it clear that Joel and she might in fact have their own issues, but they’re slowly getting to making peace, which likely suggests the show is yet to unveil Joel and Ellie’s conversations in flashbacks.
The Last of Us Next Episode Release Date
The show’s season 2 episode 3 is coming to Max on April 20. The following four episodes are set to be released every Sunday until May 25.
