The last episode of the first season of Justified: City Primeval aired on August 30th, and we know you already miss Timothy Olyphant's Raylan Givens.

Now, the main question on the minds of Justified fans is whether the show will be renewed for a second season. While there is no definite answer yet, given the more than warm reception of the spin-off by both the public and critics, it is likely that the series will be renewed.

The opportunity to make a sequel to the original series came about thanks to another novel by Elmore Leonard, City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. Givens did not even appear in the plot of the original source: in the 1980 book, the story focused on the confrontation between a serial killer and Detroit police detective Raymond Cruz.

But the writers decided that the spirit of the book was quite consistent with the realities of the series, and replaced the main character with Raylan, already familiar to the audience. However, Givens is now 15 years older, and is the caretaker of a wayward teenage daughter, which requires him to constantly keep his anger in check and refrain from resolving any dispute with violence.

The second most important character is, of course, the villain Mansell – a sociopath for whom there’s no law.

Despite the fact that Mansell was main antagonist in the first season of the reboot, there was someone who overshadowed him in the finale. Raylan found out that a criminal had escaped from a Kentucky prison, and it turned out to be none other than Boyd Crowder, one of the most charismatic anti-heroes of recent years.

This twist immediately suggested that the show's writers and creators had an idea of how the show would continue if it were up for renewal.

Despite the fact that Boyd was imprisoned in the original series, many fans never lost hope of seeing the villain on screen again. And the showrunners gave them such an opportunity. Now the decision is up to FX.

In the second season, Raylan is sure to face many moral dilemmas – he promised his daughter that he would spend more time with her, but now that Boyd is free, he is unlikely to be able to keep his promise.

In addition, he made a promise to his wife that he would resign, and since she never trusted him in the first place, the fact that he would most likely rescind his resignation would cause her to lose all faith in Givens for good.

Obviously, Boyd's goal will be to get revenge on Raylan for everything he put him through, and Givens will do everything he can to keep his loved ones out of that conflict and out of harm's way.
