Will Tom Selleck Be in ‘Boston Blue’? Donnie Wahlberg Has an Answer

Blue Bloods’ long-awaited spinoff will see Danny Reagan back, but what about the Reagan patriarch, Frank? Donnie Wahlberg reveals if Tom Selleck’s comeback is possible.
Boston Blue is coming in 2025, and one of its surprises is Danny Reagan's sudden resignation from the NYPD. However, this may not be the only surprise. After all, Donnie Wahlberg’s character isn't the only Reagan that fans are eager to see again.
Speaking with Parade on the upcoming spinoff and whether we can expect the return of Frank Reagan, portrayed by Tom Selleck, Wahlberg didn’t explicitly deny the possibility.
“New York and Boston are really close,” Wahlberg said. “They’re not that far apart. [...] Yeah, Blue Bloods is important to the audience, it’s important to me, it’s important to Sonequa [Martin-Green, Danny’s new partner]. She’s a Blue Bloods fan. She’s my partner, and she’s a Blue Bloods fan. She wants to keep that legacy alive, as well.”
The actor didn’t rule out Selleck’s guest appearances or even the possibility of some father-and-son Zoom calls in the show. However, he didn’t give many details, too.
He also refused to delve too much into the reasons for Danny’s resignation from NYPD.
“I can’t give you the exact reason why today, because that would be a big spoiler. But I would say this, as family-oriented as Danny is, he’s also always marched to the beat of his own drum. I think those two things can be true at the same time. He can march to the beat of his own drum, and it can still be about family,” Wahlberg explained.
When Will ‘Boston Blue’ Premiere?
The Blue Bloods spinoff will air this fall on CBS, taking its parent show’s timeslot — Friday nights at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
