Maybe it was not the brotherly reunion they were hoping for.

Looks like Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki are in an unspoken competition to lure the Supernatural alumni into their new projects. With Ackles securing Richard Speight Jr. for The Winchesters, Padalecki goes for his another on-screen brother, Jake Abel.

The actor has confirmed the news in a Twitter post with a signature cowboy hat, captioned "And so it begins".

Abel portrayed the Winchesters' half-brother Adam Milligan on Supernatural, later embodying angel Michael who used Adam's body as a vessel.

In Walker: Independence, Abel is going to play a handsome politician and the mayor's chief of staff. To be initially presented as a know-it-all, Abel's character is expected to reveal more of his human side to the Walker family in later episodes.

Fans, however, are not that surprised to see Jake Abel joining the cast of the Walker prequel. According to them, it was "the worst kept secret," since Abel has already appeared on the Walker panel on fan conventions, and many fans have been predicting he will join the cast.

Supernatural alumni keep returning to screens and reuniting with Ackles and Padalecki, but they do it separately. Walker: Independence has already brought in Mark Sheppard, who portrayed King of Hell Crowley in Supernatural, while Ackles secured a Speight Jr. comeback so that Richard portrays trickster Loki once again.

Padalecki himself, however, remains notably absent in The Winchesters, with the Supernatural prequel spearheaded by Ackles as executive producer. When Jensen announced that the prequel was a go, he only shared a news article link in his Twitter, to which Padalecki replied with a congratulatory message. However, he also added that he wished he knew about the prequel from Jensen personally and not from social media.

Jared then clarified there was no bad blood between him and Jensen — which still leaves hope for a brotherly reunion in the Supernatural prequel that fans would so love to see.
