Apparently, some of the lessons Benioff and Weiss learned from Game of Thrones didn’t go in vain. In their brand-new hard sci-fi show 3 Body Problems which recently premiered on Netflix, D&D executed one too many old tricks… And yet, the most brutal episode left fans awed and disturbed in the best Game of Thrones fashion.

3 Body Problem’s Judgment Day Was Terrifying

Long story short, 3 Body Problem Episode 5 titled Judgment Day shows the attack on a massive ship in the Panama Canal. Both the ship itself and its passengers — including children — are literally sliced in half, resulting in countless gruesome deaths. As you might guess, the harrowing scene didn’t sit right with many fans.

But while immensely disturbing, the Judgment Day slaughter also brought many back to the good old Game of Thrones days, specifically — the Red Wedding. Even viewers who didn’t exactly fall in love with 3 Body Problem appreciated the shocker.

“I have an absolute dissertation of problems with Netflix's 3 Body Problem but the Judgement Day scene is one of the best things I've seen on telly in a while,” X (formerly Twitter) user Dennis Gallagher wrote.

3 Body Problem Takes After Game of Thrones

Back in the day, millions of people around the world were left aghast with the notorious Red Wedding in Game of Thrones, and 3 Body Problem’s Panama Canal slaughter brought the same terror and repulsion back. Though unsettling at best, it’s these kinds of shocking twists and scenes that cemented Benioff and Weiss’ reputation.

Unfortunately, 3 Body Problem’s most unhinged scene is the only instance when following in GoT’s footsteps did Netflix’s new series any good. In general, it feels like D&D learned many wrong lessons from their previous big thing, and fans haven’t exactly appreciated that. But hey, Episode 5 was more than worth it.
