Yellowstone’s creator is now adding one more military-themed movie to his resume, but “Call of Duty” fans suggest this work belongs to a different director.

Nearly a year after ending his Western hit show Yellowstone pretty roughly, Taylor Sheridan is booked and busy with all kinds of TV series of his own, but he’s now confirmed to add a pretty unexpected movie to his tight schedule.

Right now, Sheridan is mostly getting recognition as the creator and writer of several Western shows like 1883 and 1923, as well as Paramount+’s major hit Landman, though he previously worked in the movie industry as both a director and an actor.

The recent bombshell news suggested Sheridan is currently developing a new film based on a hit shooter video game, but not everyone is just as excited to see how Sheridan’s adaptation will work out.

For the last several years, the Western genre has been Taylor Sheridan’s biggest passion, though he’ll be stepping down from such exotic stories for a while with a new movie based on the “Call of Duty” video game.

According to Variety’s report, Sheridan is already on board as one of the writers alongside Friday Night Lights’ helmer Peter Berg who will direct the feature.

The game’s fans shouldn’t worry that much though, as Sheridan has already worked on movies with military-themed movies like Denis Villeneuve’s 2015 Oscar-nominated thriller Sicario.

The news broke just several days after it was reported that Sheridan would be parting ways with Paramount+ after their deal expires in 2027, moving all of his projects to NBCUniversal’s control.

For now, it seems like the upcoming “Call of Duty” movie might become the streamer’s last project involving Sheridan.

Even though Taylor Sheridan writing a video game-based movie might be someone’s dream after the immense success of Sicario, others are convinced the writer/director belongs to his favorite Western genre.

On Reddit, “Call of Duty” fans are still weighing in on Sheridan’s capability to turn the video game into a live-action movie, with some stating that another filmmaker was born to make this kind of movie.

“I don’t know. I think Michael Bay was put on this Earth to make this movie specifically.”, Manav_Khanna17 wrote in a thread.

“Michael Bay or Ridley Scott could have handled this as well, but […] Sheridan who penned Sicario and Wind River is in his right mind, it should be great popcorn fare masquerading as noble geopolitics”, DLosChestProtector chimed in.
