Kevin Costner’s exit was only the beginning.

Summary:

  • Yellowstone is a neo-western series on the Paramount Network that recently came to an end due to the departure of Kevin Costner.
  • Although season 6 of the show is not happening, the studio is obligated to pay the actors their salaries.
  • However, Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser and Luke Grimes are demanding the increased pay for their return in the already greenlit spinoff.

Created by Taylor Sheridan, Paramount Network's Yellowstone has quickly become the show that everyone's talking about. The legacy story of the Dutton family and their beloved Montana ranch has captivated viewers with beautiful scenery, great soundtracks, and simple yet relatable stories.

Like any family, the Duttons have been through it all: the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. From love, betrayal and never-ending family drama to all the violence the characters had to inflict and endure to protect the ranch, audiences ate up everything the team behind the show put out.

The same was true for all of the spin-offs that the franchise originally produced. With each one set in a different time period, the neo-Western Yellowstone even tackled the classic Western genre. It's only now that the franchise doesn't seem to be having the best of times.

Since the departure of Kevin Costner, the original Yellowstone seems increasingly difficult to keep alive, even in spirit.

New Yellowstone Spinoff Casting News

Though season 6 of the show will not happen in the way the team behind Yellowstone hoped, there will be a second best: a spinoff, led by none other than Matthew McConaughey. As exciting as that sounds, the idea of suddenly losing all the other beloved characters never sat well with the audience.

This is exactly why it was decided to use Kelly Reilly, Cole Hauser and Luke Grimes' characters, Beth, Rip and Kayce, as a way to introduce a different setup within the same timeline. However, the decision doesn't seem to be working out that well.

According to the Puck newsletter, the actors are demanding a significant pay raise, while the studio is not willing to cooperate.

Kelly Reilly has set the salary request at $1.5 million per episode, while Cole Hauser is asking for $1.25 million, which is $525,000 more than he already makes on the show.

Now that the numbers are in, is there any way to settle things?

From the looks of it, neither the actors nor the studio are interested in backing down and going back to negotiations. Moreover, Paramount has given the cast an ultimatum: either they accept their final offers by the end of the week, or their stay in Yellowstone will be over.
