Launched in 2004, the spinoff series couldn’t last for more than 2 seasons even with Matt LeBlanc as its lead star.

With a long-standing run of 10 seasons, Friends might be one of the best sitcom shows in TV history, though the series’ overwhelming fame couldn’t secure a bright future for its planned universe expansion.

Starring big names like Jennifer Aniston, Courtney Cox, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry among others, the show concluded back in 2004, but quickly passed on the torch to its spinoff series released the same year.

However, even with all the big interest audiences had in the new show’s lead character, it was brought down quicker than everyone expected and eventually wrapped things up after 2 not so successful seasons.

More than 2 decades later, the show has made its way to streaming for the very first time, and is currently free for everyone to watch.

Friends’ fans wondering what exactly went wrong with its spinoff series titled Joey now can check it out themselves as, according to Deadline, the show starring Matt LeBlanc in his feature role is now available for watching on YouTube.

Joey follows Friends’ eponymous character, picking his story up after the events of the original series’ finale and seeing Joey, now all by himself, move to Hollywood in an attempt to become an actor for real.

There he reunites with his sister Gina and moves in with his genius nephew Michael working as a rocket scientist. The show also doesn’t miss a chance to take a closer look at Joey's turbulent love life as he starts up an unexpected romance with his superintendent Alexis Garrett.

Friends Co-Creator Knew Joey Would End Up Being a Disaster

Joey’s first season premiered months after Friends’ final season was released and kicked off with quite solid ratings, gathering more than 18 million viewers for its pilot and even getting Friends’ time slot.

However, things changed quickly throughout the show’s run, and the second season had more than average score of 7 million viewers.

Upon Joey’s cancellation, Friends’ co-creator Kevin S. Bright revealed in an interview with The Age that this was an expected outcome considering the lead character’s major change from the original show.

“On Friends Joey was a womaniser but we enjoyed his exploits. He was a solid friend, a guy you knew you could count on. Joey was deconstructed to be a guy who couldn’t get a job, couldn’t ask a girl out. He became a pathetic, mopey character. I felt he was moving in the wrong direction, but I was not heard”, Bright stated back then.
