Delving into one of the darkest parts of British history, the show primarily follows the infamous Gunpowder Plot of 1605 when England was dragged by a war with Spain and tensions were even higher with a fierce persecution of Catholics all across the country.
A young Catholic and a man who has just lost his wife and father to all the events occurring, Robert Catesby, portrayed by Harrington, gets driven by his anger when he plots an assassination of King James I while the latter is in the houses of Parliament.
Determined to make his plan come true, Catesby finds allies in a group of other angry men, one of them being notorious Guy Fawkes; together they have to decide how exactly they will bring their vengeance to the King.
