Having prequels is nice until the moment you kind of want to change the original product, right?

The executive producer and writer behind The Big Bang Theory Steve Molaro appears to regret a certain dark storyline that was included in the original show and that Young Sheldon, as a prequel, is now forced to follow.

Young Sheldon Just Reminded Us How Close the Finale Actually Is

We're talking about the George cheating scandal — an unfortunate event in Sheldon Cooper's life that had him compulsively knocking on doors three times before entering for the rest of his life.

What seemed as a good tool to give weight to the story before has turned out to be a burden, as Molaro revealed in Jessica Radloff's book, The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series.

"I think the real answer is, we were just trying to find a way to add some weight and importance to the scene when he said it, and that was a way to do it. Had I known it would end up having an impact on Young Sheldon, I might have thought twice about it," Molaro reveals in the book.

The aforementioned cheating scandal had Sheldon discovering his dad with another woman back when he was 13 years old. Young Sheldon is a prequel about the genius' early years, so naturally, the show can't escape from what seems to be one of the most important details about the character.

Young Sheldon Star Couldn't Get Through This Scene With a Straight Face

In The Big Bang Theory, this detail is a pretty emotional and dark thing to know about Sheldon. However, Young Sheldon is more of a light-hearted comedy that is now forced to follow something that clearly does not fall in line with its general tone.

It's unclear when exactly the prequel will deal with the notorious cheating scandal, but, depending on Young Sheldon's pace, it could happen some time around season 6 or 7.

However, given that the prequel has already messed with TBBT continuity many times, the show actually might try and do it again, even though it would be a complete retcon.

Still, with the prequel being such a hit, CBS clearly does not want to abruptly end it or ruin it with the aftermath of George's infidelity, so chances are the show will end up omitting it. The only way for us to know would be to tune in and keep up with Young Sheldon, as the series airs Thursdays on CBS.
