The saddest Young Sheldon scene is too relatable for many fans.

During its six-season run, Young Sheldon has gone a long way from being a prequel focusing on the early life of a fan-favorite genius physicist from The Big Bang Theory to an independent family show equally featuring all the Cooper family members. But the two shows definitely continue to have a lot in common.

Though both sitcoms are humorous and lightweight, they have some episodes that are so heartbreaking that fans find it hard to ever rewatch them.

Those sad moments have become the theme of a fan discussion on Reddit. The author of the discussion asked their fellow fans to share the moments from both shows that broke their heart and left them in tears.

Young Sheldon Ignored One of the Coolest TBBT Sheldon's Stories

While many commenters remembered heart-rending TBBT episodes where Howard's mom died and the Pasadena gang found a letter from his estranged father, there was one sad scene from Young Sheldon that turned out to be relatable for many viewers.

"Sheldon listening to the Nobel Prize radio announcement alone and assuming he'll always be alone, and then we see what all of his future friends were doing at the same time," one of the fans wrote. "It's one of only a handful of TV moments that can get me to cry because I remember being Sheldon at that moment."

Other fans agreed it was one of the saddest moments in the whole sitcom. But it also was a hopeful scene hinting at Sheldon's happy future. The episode featuring the scene was the Season 2 finale and was released on the same night as the two-part finale of The Big Bang Theory. In the episode, Sheldon invited his entire school to listen to the real-time Nobel Prize announcements, but no one came. When he realized that he was destined to be alone for the rest of his life and broke down in tears, his future Pasadena friends were being shown in their childhood rooms.

"This choked me up. He had no idea of the family he'd have one day," one of the viewers commented under the scene posted on YouTube.

For many fans, this episode has become really heart-wrenching because Sheldon's situation is too relatable. For a variety of reasons, a lot of viewers were friendless as children. Just like Sheldon and his friends, they had to go through a lot of loneliness, heartbreak, and isolation before finding true friends and family.
