Zach Cherry Auditioned So Hard ‘Severance’ Creator Changed Dylan for Him

Just as the mystery plot of Severance captured the attention of millions, so did its quirky characters. However, one particular actor did more for the show’s success. Stay tuned to find out what the creators originally planned for Dylan.
It’s safe to say that Severance is one of the biggest achievements of the year in the TV industry. The AppleTV+’s masterpiece earned fair and square its 96% Rotten Tomatoes score. And actors like Adam Scott, Tramell Tillman, Britt Lower and others helped earn the success.
But when it comes to the main cast, Zach Cherry seemed to have influenced his character more than others.
Creator Dan Erickson initially had a different idea for Cherry’s Dylan. When the character only still existed on paper, Erickson wanted him to be more erratic and antsy. But then Zach Cherry came to audition and the whole idea was changed 180 degrees.
How Did Zach Cherry Change Dylan?
At first, the creators didn't plan for Dylan to be that likable, and the only reason that he ended up that goofy is because of Cherry’s charisma and devotion.
At an invite-only event that The Wrap held recently, Severance creator talked about the time Cherry auditioned for the role. He mentioned the fact that it was him who shaped the character and turned him into what we later saw and loved on screen.
“I initially envisioned him as this really kind of twitchy, almost like cocaine energy kind of guy who's all over the place. And then this guy Zach Cherry comes in, who is the most even-keel human being mathematically that could exist, and hearing the stream of consciousness dialogue coming out of his mouth was suddenly the funniest thing I'd ever heard in my life,” Erickson said at the event.
As a result, we got the scene-stealing Dylan, with all his quirks and such.
