Zack Snyder’s Doomed ‘Rebel Moon’ Franchise Gets a Sudden Update

It’s been almost a year since Snyder’s unfortunate Rebel Moon franchise was last spoken about, though it seems like the director has been quietly working on a new bunch of sequels for the epic space opera. Here’s what one of Snyder’s co-writers had to say about the franchise’s future.
If you thought all the backlash would stop Zack Snyder from developing more movies for his already forgotten sci-fi franchise Rebel Moon, you probably have to wait another ten years before it actually becomes true.
Launched back in 2023, Rebel Moon has so far got itself two movies, both of which received mostly negative reviews from critics and viewers, despite becoming long-standing hits on Netflix.
After Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver followed pretty much the same discouraging path as Part One: Child of Fire, it was rumoured that Snyder would take a break from the failing franchise after all.
However, it seems like the director didn’t need that much rest anyway — at least that’s what his fellow Rebel Moon writer’s recent revelations suggest.
Rebel Moon’s Kurt Johnstad Says Zack Snyder Has “Detailed Outlines” for 4 More Movies
Apparently, the first two movies’ complete failure wasn’t something that discouraging for Zack Snyder since the director has already elaborated some ideas for several more installments.
“We outlined movies 3, 4, 5, and 6. Those decisions are way above me, how those things are made and where the money is going to come from. I hope we get a chance to tell that story to its very end because it's an amazing world and I love writing those characters”, Rebel Moon’s co-writer Kurt Johnstad revealed in an interview with I Minutemen.
He also added that this isn’t just something that the production team keeps in their mind as “Zack has literally plotted out the whole world”.
Zack Snyder Isn’t Getting That Much Money for Rebel Moon Sequels, Fans Say
Even though the director might still not be done with his epic space opera movie series, some think there’s no way for it to get four more installments after the first two movies’ pretty epic failure.
“No way he gets budget for 4 more. Absolute train wreck of a series. I cant even say it's hilariously bad, it's just bad. Unoriginal and totally absurd plot, terrible acting, paper thin characters, waaaaay too much slowmo, shit dialog, etc. I stopped watching part way into 2, and I'm definitely not wasting my time with more of this series”, Redditor _Bagoons wrote in a thread.
“There is no way this happens. You have silly movies like Fast and the Furious that get 12 movies but people are actually invested in those characters in addition to the action. I don’t see anyone saying they care about rebel moon characters - those who like it seem to say they liked the cinematography”, inbetweensound added.
“I think it’s unlikely. Netflix is infamously cagey about viewing numbers, but if Part 2 already saw a 10M drop in viewers despite the short gap after Part 1, then Netflix may be calculating a more substantial drop in a follow-up that may take 1-2 years to make. That number will then get smaller for each subsequent part”, Joshawott27 agreed.
