10 Best Easter Eggs You Could’ve Missed in ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’

DC’s Superman has just got into tough competition with Marvel’s new movie which, just like the former, has plenty of hidden references going over many fans’ heads.
It’s been a fantastic opening weekend for Marvel’s The Fantastic Four reboot which has now surpassed a mark of $200 million in the box office and aiming at way more in the upcoming weeks.
Turning the story about Marvel’s first family into a retro-futuristic adventure movie that stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, The Fantastic Four: First Steps follows the superhero studio’s long-standing tradition of featuring numerous references to Marvel’s other stories.
Here are some of the best Easter Eggs you should pay attention to while rewatching The Fantastic Four sometime later.
Red Ghost’s Super-Apes Are Still There (Without Red Ghost)
Ahead of the movie’s premiere on July 25, it was revealed that the scenes featuring supervillain Red Ghost, portrayed by John Malkovich, were ultimately cut because the story would just be overloaded.
Still, one of Red Ghost’s villainous apes made it to The Fantastic Four: First Steps as one of the scenes sees Pedro Pascal’s Mr. Fantastic fighting the animal.
‘The Fantastic Four’ Original Cast Makes a Short Cameo
In the scene where citizens thank The Fantastic Four there’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo of all four actors that appeared in 1994’s The Fantastic Four.
The movie was never released publicly, though it still gained popularity when pirate versions got leaked.
The Beatles Reference
In the famous scene where The Fantastic Four members are standing on a stage, the platform actually replicates the stage that The Beatles performed on while appearing on the Ed Sullivan show back in 1964.
And Also About Ed Sullivan
Marvel’s new movie also features a subtle nod to real-life television host Ed Sullivan when it introduces Mark Gatiss’ Ted Gilbert.
The character also comes as yet another reference, this time to the Victorian-era theatrical partnership of the dramatist WS Gilbert and the composer Arthur Sullivan.
HERBIE’s Voice Sounds Familiar
In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, the leading superhero team’s loyal robot that assists them in their missions is voiced by Matthew Wood, who is more known for voicing General Grievous in the Star Wars franchise.
Human Torch Figure as a Callback to 2005’s ‘Fantastic Four’
The Fantastic Four’s new reboot seemingly has a nod to its not-so-well-received 2005 predecessor when Joseph Quinn’s Johnny angers The Thing by hitting the "Flame On!" sound on a Human Torch figure, resulting in Ben destroying it.
Quite the same happens in the 2005 version of The Fantastic Four where Chris Evans’ Johnny performs the same trick with the figurine.
Another Nod to Stan Lee (and Jack Kirby)
The movie also features one brief scene where two young men are seen looking out of a window from an office building that’s covered with comic book art.
This is meant to be a reference to Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, The Fantastic Four’s co-creator, who both wanted the MCU to be like the world outside of your window.
Unexpected Cross-Over With Superman
Whether this was a mere coincidence or not, both The Fantastic Four: First Steps and James Gunn’s Superman feature scenes where Joseph Quinn’s Johnny and David Corenswet’s Clark Kent talk about themselves in the third person.
ANSA Instead of NASA
While sticking to the same idea, The Fantastic Four’s ANSA is a changed short name for NASA, though this time meant to be the American National Space Agency.
‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Major Tease
In one of the movie’s post-credits scenes, a major shocker comes in when it’s revealed that Doctor Doom has something to use Franklin Richards for, with the plot twist potentially becoming the central storyline of Marvel’s upcoming big movie, Avengers: Doomsday.
