Remember, just because it looks good on paper doesn't mean it will sizzle on the screen.

Here are some of the now-iconic on-screen couples that couldn't quite turn up the heat.

1. Natalie Portman and Hayden ChristensenStar Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones

Natalie Portman's Padme and Hayden Christensen's Anakin Skywalker were the love story that the galaxy hinged on. Unfortunately, it was a swing and a miss. Despite Portman and Christensen's undeniable individual talent, their romantic chemistry had less spark than a dud lightsaber. Their love scenes were more painful than a walk on the dark side, with their forced affection making the audience squirm. We'd sooner believe in the existence of Ewoks than in their romance.

2. Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt – Passengers

These two may have more charisma than a charm school in Hollywood, but together in "Passengers", they delivered the chemistry of an unsalted cracker. The supposed steamy romance felt more like an awkward, prolonged first date, and their interactions were as flat as a deflated spaceship tire. We're not sure if it was the script or the artificial spaceship atmosphere, but this romantic sci-fi fizzled out before it even got started.

3. Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck – Gigli

Yes, they are now one of Hollywood's most talked-about couples, but rewind to the 2003 film "Gigli" and we're left scratching our heads. Despite being in a real-life relationship at the time, their on-screen connection was as appealing as a cold bowl of yesterday's soup. Watching them was like observing two remarkably good-looking robots trying to emulate human love. Thankfully, they seem to have found their groove off-screen.

4. Kristen Stewart and Robert PattinsonTwilight

Now, before the Twihards come after us, we've got to admit that Bella and Edward's love story was more chilly than the Pacific Northwest setting. Their romance felt as lifeless as the undead creatures they portrayed, despite the screaming fans and record-breaking box office. Somehow, being eternally seventeen did not inspire infinite sparks.

5. Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie – The Tourist

You would think pairing two of the most iconic actors would be a recipe for on-screen magic. Alas, in "The Tourist", their romantic tension was about as taut as overcooked spaghetti. Their interactions were stiffer than Depp's character's suits, and the only thing they managed to steal was two hours from our lives.

6. Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise – Knight and Day

Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise tried to take us on a thrill ride in "Knight and Day", but we felt less of an adrenaline rush and more of a numbing boredom. Despite all the exciting car chases, explosions, and a plot that kept us guessing, their chemistry never took off, much like their failing spy mission. Even a drone would've noticed the lack of heat between these two.

7. Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder – Destination Wedding

"Destination Wedding" had all the hallmarks of a classic romantic comedy – stunning destination, quirky characters, and a wedding to boot. Yet, Reeves and Ryder's characters managed to turn their meet-cute into a meet-mute. Their chemistry was as dry as the California wine they sipped on, proving that not all rom-coms are made equal.

8. Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston – The Break-Up

Billed as a romantic comedy, "The Break-Up" was anything but. Vaughn and Aniston's chemistry was more comparable to a tepid office water cooler conversation than a passionate love affair. Their on-screen romance was less "hot and heavy" and more "mild and underwhelming". We'll take a rain check on this one, thanks.

9. Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise – Eyes Wide Shut

In "Eyes Wide Shut", Kidman and Cruise, who were married in real life at the time, presented us with a chemistry that was... well, wide shut. The supposed intimate scenes between the couple felt more like an awkward choreographed dance than a spontaneous expression of love. We all remember the masks from this film, but the true masquerade was their lack of chemistry.

10. Julia Roberts and Nick Nolte – I Love Trouble

With a title like "I Love Trouble", we should've known what we were getting into. Despite being two of Hollywood's biggest stars, Roberts and Nolte had all the on-screen chemistry of oil and water. Their bickering felt more like a squabble at a parent-teacher conference than a flirtatious banter, leaving us to wonder if the real trouble was their casting.

11. Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey – Failure to Launch

This pair in "Failure to Launch" was more of a failure to spark. Parker and McConaughey's on-screen relationship felt about as genuine as a knock-off designer bag. Between McConaughey's mama's boy antics and Parker's frustrated love interest performance, their chemistry had us all prematurely hitting the eject button.

12. Audrey Hepburn and Gary Cooper – Love in the Afternoon

In "Love in the Afternoon", Hepburn and Cooper's 28-year age difference wasn't the only thing making us cringe. Their connection was as flimsy as a paper airplane, their chemistry practically non-existent. Hepburn's youthful charm and Cooper's seasoned suave somehow didn't mix, leaving us with an underwhelming aftertaste.

13. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey – Fool's Gold

Hudson and McConaughey's on-screen chemistry in "Fool's Gold" was just that – fool's gold. Despite the tropical setting and treasure hunting plot, their romance felt as convincing as a pirate with a fake parrot. We all knew the only real treasure was the end credits.

14. Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant – Bridget Jones's Diary

Yes, Zellweger and Grant were charming in their own right, but together they were about as exciting as reading the phone book. Despite the charm and wit of their individual characters, their shared scenes felt as lackluster as a soggy crumpet. If that's what love looks like, we'd rather stay single.
