How dare they disrespect the royals?

This year, House of the Dragon has received three nominations in Critics Choice Awards, with the show set to contest for the title of Best Drama Series, and two actors — Milly Alcock and Matt Smith — to compete for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress.

Meanwhile, both lead actors submitted by the show, Paddy Considine (King Viserys) and Emma D'Arcy (old Rhaenyra), were snubbed of a nomination, predictably causing frustration among fans.

Fans are particularly "shocked" about Considine being "robbed" of a nomination, even though many people noted that it was somewhat of the show's own fault.

The Only Happy Character Ending in HotD Already Happened, the Rest Won't Be As Lucky

Many argue that Considine is not exactly the main character in House of the Dragon, suggesting that he might have received a nomination if he was submitted to a different category.

"First of all, as much as I love Vizzy T, he is NOT the lead character, Rhaenyra is, and secondly, why would you risk submitting him for lead in a highly contested category, when supporting almost guarantees you nomination, maybe even win? It doesn't make sense," Redditor Lethargic_Logician said.

The fact that D'Arcy was also snubbed of a nomination also left many people outraged. According to fans, Considine deserved to be nominated for his performance in episode 8 (when King Viserys, ridden by leprosy, entered the throne room to support Rhaenyra), while D'Arcy peaked in episode 10 (particularly when she learned that her son Lucerys was murdered by Aemond and Vhagar).

However, D'Arcy can have another shot next year when the second season of House of the Dragon arrives, while Considine's character has already been killed off, meaning that his King Viserys portrayal won't get nominated once again.

"It's a suicide move for HBO – not submitting Paddy in Supporting. For me they are trading a win for more nominations," Redditor superciliouscreek argued.

Alongside House of the Dragon, the following shows are competing for Best Drama Series: Andor, Bad Sisters, Better Call Saul, The Crown, Severance, Euphoria, The Good Fight, and Yellowstone.
