5 Best Documentary TV Series to Watch if You Liked 'The Rehearsal', Ranked by IMDb

These projects offer an immersive experience in worlds where reality is stranger than any fiction.
In The Rehearsal, Nathan Fielder conducted a unique experiment that blurred the lines between sincerity and staging, reality and absurdity. This experiment forced us to consider the nature of the human experience and whether it can be rehearsed.
If you find yourself wondering, "What did I just watch?" after the end credits and craving a similar experience, check out these five TV series.
5. 'Jackass', 2000-2007
IMDb Score: 7.3/10
Johnny Knoxville and Jeff Tremaine came up with the idea for a show about crazy stunts in the late 1990s. Knoxville wasn't planning on filming anything – he simply wanted to write an article about testing self-defense tools. However, Tremaine suggested turning the idea into a show.
Ultimately, Knoxville and his crew tried to fly a rocket into space, were hit in the face by a giant mechanical hand, jumped from a giant trampoline into a pond, and rode bikes through a skate park.
4. 'Pretend It's a City', 2021
IMDb Score: 8.0/10
In 2010, Martin Scorsese made a documentary about his friend Fran Lebowitz. The series Pretend It's a City is a sort of sequel to it. In it, Scorsese and Lebowitz discuss New York City and stroll through their favorite places.
No city problem escapes Lebowitz, from huge crowds of tourists to subway rides. Scorsese acts as an interviewer, periodically interjecting his witty comments into Lebowitz's monologue.
3. 'Jury Duty', 2023
IMDb Score: 8.2/10
Ronald Gladden, an ordinary employee at a solar energy company, is summoned for jury duty. Meanwhile, a film crew approached him and offered him the chance to participate in a documentary about the judicial system.
Ronald agreed, unaware that the entire trial was staged and that the jurors, defendants, and judge were actors with scripts. Ronald is the only real and unsuspecting person on set.
The series was conceived by Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the writers and producers of The Office. While they wrote the characters' story arcs and some of the lines, most of the dialogue and events in the show are improvised.
2. 'How To with John Wilson', 2020-2023
IMDb Score: 8.7/10
In the early 2010s, documentary filmmaker John Wilson started creating short parody videos about life. After some time, he showed his work to Nathan Fielder, who helped him secure support from HBO. In 2020, the world saw How To with John Wilson.
In each episode, Wilson sets a single goal, such as cooking the perfect risotto or splitting the bill at a restaurant.
Wilson then hits the streets of New York City to find out how the city's residents tackle such challenges and inevitably learns something interesting.
1. 'Nathan for You', 2013-2017
IMDb Score: 8.9/10
Nathan Fielder's series predates The Rehearsal and parodies reality TV. In it, a business school graduate offers small business owners ideas for increasing sales and then implements them himself. Each episode features real people with real problems.
In the first episode, Nathan persuades the owner of a small frozen yogurt shop to introduce a new flavor: poop.
While these ideas don't help the businesses, watching their implementation is extremely hilarious.
