5 Burning ‘Sirens’ Questions That Were Left Unanswered

Sirens is the new mystery show on Netflix that became a fan favorite for its eerie atmosphere and mysterious plot twists. But some of the biggest secrets of the series were never revealed. Here they are.
Netflix’s Sirens is a haunting, hypnotic dive into the tangled lives of three women, wrapped in mystery. Starring Julianne Moore, Milly Alcock, and Meghann Fahy, the series blends psychological suspense with subtle supernatural elements.
Although the entire story was dark and shrouded in mystery, many things became clear by the end of the miniseries. But even though we received the most important answers, we can’t help but wonder how these five plotlines could have been resolved.
1. What Is Michaela’s True Power? (Or Is There One?)
Julianne Moore’s Michaela Kell is the enigmatic force at the heart of Sirens. Is she a cult leader? A witch? A poor woman trapped in a psychedelic universe? The show flirts with the idea that Michaela possesses a siren-like power: a seductive, almost supernatural influence over those around her, especially Simone.
However, it never fully spells out what that power is or where it comes from. The end of the series, when she, defeated, is leaving the island on a ferry, even hints at the fact that she was never actually a siren and had no superpowers…
2. Why Did Bruce Recognize Michaela?
Bruce, Simone and Devon’s father, is a tragic figure battling dementia and alcoholism. In one brief but loaded scene, he seems to recognize Michaela during his visit to the cliff house, despite the fact that they never met.
This moment drips with significance, yet it remains unexplained. Could Bruce’s recognition be a clue to a hidden past? Or a hint at a deeper connection between these characters? The most common theory is that he thought it was his deceased wife, though this remains unclear. The show tantalizes viewers with questions but never provides answers.
3. What’s the Meaning Behind Simone’s Final Choice?
Simone’s arc is the emotional core of Sirens, and her final decision is as powerful as it is puzzling. After the explosive revelation of her affair with Peter, Michaela’s husband, Simone chooses to stay on the island, stepping into a new, ambiguous role of power and influence. And it’s one of the most unexpected moments of the show. She literally worshiped Kiki, and now she was ready to “kill” her.
“If it doesn’t serve you – let go,” indeed.
4. What’s Up with the Island’s Strange Dreams?
The island itself feels like a character in Sirens, casting a mysterious, almost supernatural shadow over the story. Characters report strange dreams and visions: Peter talks about the island causing him to have unsettling dreams, and Devon experiences dream-like episodes after encounters with Michaela.
But the show never clarifies whether these experiences are psychological, mystical, or else. This mystery deepens the eerie atmosphere and raises questions about the island’s true nature and influence.
5. What About Peter’s Real Personality?
Peter’s absolutely unexpected affair with Simone and his history with Michaela are central to the plot but never fully explored. His role as a catalyst for much of the tension and his impact on the women’s lives remain somewhat unresolved, however the final episode made it clear that he is and always was the true evil.
At the end of the final episode, Jose asks, “Are you sure you want to do this again?” This proves the point that Peter might have a terrible pattern of using the women he chooses to bring into his life and making them suffer and this suggests that Simone might be in danger.
