Although the original Until Dawn game has its own gripping plot, the creators decided to go a different way. Here are the little details that kept the connection between the movie and the game.

On April 25, the horror movie Until Dawn, based on the game of the same name, was released. The film presented a new story with new characters, but hidden easter eggs confirmed the connection to the original.

1. The Quarry References

One night, Clover ended up in a creepy witch's house. There she found sketches of werewolves and porcelain masks. This is a reference to the game The Quarry, from the same Supermassive Games studio that created Until Dawn.

The Quarry is considered an ideological sequel to Until Dawn – in it, the plot revolves around werewolves and a fortune teller who resembles a witch.

2. The Only Character That Appeared in Both the Game And the Movie

Clover and her friends are trapped by psychiatrist Alan J. Hill, played by Peter Stormare. The house is located in a place where a catastrophe once caused an entire city to collapse into the ground.

Dr. Hill began luring traumatized people into the house to study the depths of fear. Clover, who had lost her mother and sister, became the perfect subject for Dr. Hill.

Alan J. Hill is the only character in Until Dawn who comes directly from the game, where he was also played by Peter Stormare. However, in the game, Dr. Hill was not a villain – he appeared as a narrator and a hallucination.

3. The Butterfly Effect Hints

In the game, the butterfly effect plays a key role – the player's actions determine the further development of events, which means every choice affects the ending.

In the movie, the variability mechanic was recreated with a time loop twist. The characters made different choices that led to one or another "ending." The final version had a happy ending: Clover and her friends survived.

Director David F. Sandberg confirmed that the movie contains visual references to the butterfly effect – for example, the image of a rune resembling a butterfly.

4. Abe's First Death Repeats Josh's Prank

Abe's first death was one of the most gruesome in the movie – the masked maniac cut him in half. This is a reference to Josh's fake death in the game. The guy was playing a prank on his friends by pretending to be a killer.

5. The Original Until Dawn House

Clover killed Dr. Hill and left the house with her friends. However, in the psychiatrist's office, the TV started broadcasting Dr. Hill's new testing ground for research – a cottage in a snowy location. It is very similar to the house where the events of the original Until Dawn game took place.
