As with any Marvel Studios project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 features a plethora of references to popular culture, comic books, and previous films in the franchise.

Considering that the project was directed by James Gunn, who is known for his love of hidden details and references, the number of Easter eggs per minute of screen time exceeds all expectations.

Opening

The first reference appears in the opening splash screen. In all recent projects, the studio has used the Marvel logo to insert footage from previous MCU movies.

In the first few seconds of the movie, the viewer manages to see all the main characters that have appeared over the years of the franchise.

The new Guardians of the Galaxy, however, uses only fragments from the previous parts of its own trilogy. In this way, Gunn once again emphasizes the isolation of his films from other Marvel projects.

2001: A Space Odyssey

The movie contains two references to one of Stanley Kubrick's most famous works, 2001: A Space Odyssey. During a space walk, Peter Quill and his friends put on colorful space suits.

Similar costumes were worn by the protagonists of Kubrick's science fiction. Another nod to the master was the scene of the girl running on the squirrel wheel.

The crew members of the Discovery in the Odyssey performed their training in a similar way.

Drax Dancing

In Guardians of the Galaxy Part 2, Drax tells Quill about two kinds of creatures: the ones who dance, and others who don't.

Drax then made it clear that he considered himself to be the second, which added tragedy to the character. The credits scene of the first movie even showed Baby Groot being afraid to dance at the sight of Drax.

However, at the end of the third movie, Drax begins to dance joyfully with everyone in the crowd, imitating Groot's movements from the first instalment.

Come and Get Your Love

The opening post-credits scene shows Rocket and the revamped Guardians discussing their favorite songs.

After mentioning Britney Spears, King Crimson, and a few other artists, Rocket, as the new leader of the team, turns on Come And Get Your Love by Redbone.

It was this soundtrack that played during Peter Quill's first appearance in the first 2014 movie.

Thanos' Snap

Reflecting on the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Peter Quill admits that he is partially responsible for Thanos' snap.

Specifically, he mentions that his reaction to the news of Gamora's death led to an emotional reaction that allowed the Mad Titan to take over again.
