HBO’s hit medical drama revived the actor’s career — and it’s worth checking out.

Having wrapped its first season up just several days ago, The Pitt is about to go further with another instalment, but the talks about its leading cast might not die down right until new episodes are dropped.

The medical drama is led by Noah Wyle who you may know from some old TV shows and movies. The actor hasn’t been seen that frequently on the screens ever since his latest film, a 2017 drama Shot, was released.

However, it’s fair to say Wyle’s list of credits deserves checking out from The Pitt’s devoted fans — especially since you’ve got plenty of time before a second season arrives next year.

Fail Safe (2000)

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, Fail Safe has 100% from critics and 78% from viewers
  • On IMDb, Fail Safe has 7.4/10

A television movie based on a Cold War novel of the same name, Fail Safe boasts of a perfect critical score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, followed by a decent rating of 78% from the audiences.

Apart from Wyle, the film stars George Clooney, Sam Elliott and Richard Dreyfuss among others, following a group of pilots wrongly tasked with dropping a bomb on Moscow during the Cold War crisis.

Dreyfuss and Wyle portray the American president and his translator respectively, pushing the whole drama in utter chaos as they have to reach out to the Soviet leader to negotiate.

Pirates of Silicon Valley (1999)

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, Pirates of Silicon Valley has 89% from critics and 84% from viewers
  • On IMDb, Pirates of Silicon Valley has 7.2/10

Martyn Burke’s biopic helped Wyle rise to stardom, seeing him as Apple’s co-founder Steve Jobs pushed into a fierce rivalry with Anthony Michael Hall’s Bill Gates over development of the first personal computer.

Both Jobs and Gates eventually responded to the movie, though the former took it even further, inviting Wyle to one of Apple’s conferences to pull a prank on the audience; Hall didn’t receive the same treatment from Gates though, but still got praised for the accurate portrayal.

Pirates of Silicon Valley remains one of Wyle’s finest works, boasting of scores of 89% and 84% from critics and viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

Donnie Darko (2001)

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, Donnie Darkohas 88% from critics and 80% from viewers
  • On IMDb, Donnie Darko has 8.0/10

Starring Noah Wyle in a supporting role, Donnie Darko follows Jake Gyllenhaal ’s eponymous character who, out of nowhere, gets a superpower to alter time and destiny after accidentally surviving in a pretty scary accident.

The psychological thriller is able to play both the viewer and Donnie’s mind, every so often introducing a mysterious figure in a rabbit costume who gives ominous warnings about when exactly the world will end.

Donnie Darko remains a long-standing sci-fi hit with 88% and 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Falling Skies (2011 — 2015)

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, Falling Skies 79% from critics and 70% from viewers
  • On IMDb, Falling Skies has 7.1/10

Before The Last of Us took over the top of most popular post-apocalyptic dramas, Falling Skies was one of the best sci-fi TV shows which, conveniently, starred Noah Wyle in the leading role.

The series follows Tom Mason, a former history teacher trying to make some use of his professional knowledge while witnessing a, well, alien invasion.

Produced by one of modern sci-fi maestros Steven Spielberg, Falling Skies had quite an appeal among audiences, still keeping high scores of 79% and 70% from critics and viewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Red Line (2019)

  • On Rotten Tomatoes, The Red Line 72% from critics and 77% from viewers
  • On IMDb, The Red Line has 5.9/10

Not long before The Pitt, Noah Wyle starred in another compelling TV drama, though not many might have noticed.

The Red Line follows the ramifications of an African American doctor’s death caused by a Chicago police officer; the event leads to three different families’ fate intertwining, and the show itself dives deep into all sides of the tragedy, with some help from the brilliant performances of the cast led by Wyle.

The Red Line is still sitting high with both critics and audiences, owning 72% and 77% on Rotten Tomatoes.
