7 Times Carrie Did Something Extra Stupid in ‘Sex and the City’

While watching Sex and the City for the first time, we never realized that Carrie Bradshaw, the main protagonist, was actually the show's biggest red flag. Read on to see the list of controversial decisions she made throughout the series.
Any respectable single girl would have Sex and the City on her "to watch" list, so everyone is probably familiar with Carrie Bradshaw. Still, maybe we should refresh your memory. She is the narrator of the series' main storyline and a self-proclaimed romantic who believes in love and soulmates.
The series is based on the idea that dating is hard but that the reward is the desired "I do" and a huge wardrobe. However, while we initially rooted for her and blamed Big for every problem she faced, starting from second rewatch we realized that the main problem in Carrie’s life was her own behavior and the choices she made throughout the series.
So here we have a list of 7 most controversial things Carrie did in Sex and the City.
1. The Affair with Big While He Was Married
Perhaps Carrie's worst storyline involved her affair with Mr. Big while he was married to Natasha. This relationship crossed clear any ethical boundary there is and showed once again that Carrie is ready to prioritize her own desires over the consequences for others.
The affair revealed a selfish side of her character that many viewers found difficult to forgive to this day, particularly when she showed little genuine remorse for the pain caused to Big's wife.
2. The Way She Treated Aidan After Their First Breakup
Carrie's behavior toward Aidan Shaw after their initial breakup was widely criticized, and rightfully so. She led him on while still being involved with Big, and then she expected him to forgive her infidelity and move in with her immediately.
Who does that? Demanding that your perfect (at the time) guy forgive you after you cheated on him with the guy he was initially jealous of? Come on, Carrie!
3. Miranda’s Neck Issue and the Snowball Effect It Caused
Carrie is often criticized for her reaction when Miranda fell in the shower and couldn’t get up and asked Carrie to drop everything and come rescue her. But instead, she sent Aidan to help Miranda because she had a very important meeting to attend. And while many people judge Carrie for the decision, it’s actually still not that bad if you compare it to the bagel storyline.
After Miranda was already at home after hospital, Carrie came to her with bagels saying she was there to check on her friend, while in reality bagels were just an excuse to gossip about her relationship problems. Kudos to Miranda who wasn’t afraid to confront Carrie with the bs she did.
4. The Paris Decision and Abandoning Her Life
Another stupid thing to do under the guise of “starting the new life” was when Carrie decided to move to Paris with Aleksandr Petrovsky. When she did that, she essentially abandoned her established life, career, friendships she had in New York for the mere idea of having something greater and bigger.
This decision seemed not romantic and full of hope, but impulsive and out of character, leading many to question whether she was running away from her problems rather than facing them maturely.
5. The Post-It Note Reaction
Although Berger's method of breaking up with Carrie via Post-it note was questionable and rude, her reaction and actions afterward were seen by many as overly dramatic.
Her decision to publicly shame him, as well as involve her friends in elaborate revenge fantasies, revealed her inability to handle rejection gracefully and showed her immature side. Once again.
6. Prioritizing Petrovsky Over Her Book Club Meeting
As if moving to Paris wasn’t bad enough, while she was there, Carrie continued to make questionable choices. It seemed like she had finally found her place in Paris when she ran into fans of her book who suggested a meet-and-greet.
However, when her boyfriend Petrovsky had anxiety about going to his own gallery opening, she stayed with him the whole night instead of attending her own event. She could have at least left earlier to meet with her fans. It was rude and disrespectful. Oh, and stupid.
7. The Cheating Moment With Aidan
The second installment of Sex and the City movie follows the main characters in Abu Dhabi. Things get interesting when Carrie meets Aidan in the market and decides it's "fate." She goes on a date with him, which of course leads to a kiss. Basically, she compromised the life she had with Big, which she had struggled to achieve, all because she was delusional.
