9-1-1 season 10 release date confirmed: an October premiere, with Nashville riding along the same night
ABC has decided that one hour of screaming sirens per week is for cowards.
This fall, the network is stacking the 9-1-1 mothership and its country-fried spinoff into a single evening — with Grey's Anatomy stationed directly afterward, presumably to treat whatever the first two hours did to you. The triple-decker has an official start date, and before we get to it, let's appreciate the mess season 10 is walking into.
What season 10 walks into
Season 9 did not end quietly (it's 9-1-1; nothing ends quietly, some things end in tsunamis). Athena survived a hospital hit attempt and is trading the cruiser for a detective's badge, May is off to nursing school, and Buck — sweet, chaotic Buck — signed guardianship paperwork for Theo, the kid who is biologically his thanks to the season 6 sperm-donation arc that the show clearly never forgot about even when we did.
Oliver Stark, for one, wants everyone to pump the brakes on the adoption headlines:
"I don't think it would be possible for that to be adoption paperwork," Stark said. "We're talking right now about fostering."
As for what sudden fatherhood does to television's most catastrophically single firefighter:
"He'll have to give more consideration to those he chooses to date," Stark said. "Any partner is compatible with being a father."
Buck. Buck, honey. Ten seasons of your life and you're finally doing paperwork on purpose.
And Nashville makes two
The spinoff earned its same-night promotion fast: both renewals were announced on the same day back in March, which tells you exactly how ABC feels about this franchise. It is the load-bearing wall of the entire network, and now the wall has a banjo.

- 8:00 pm — 9-1-1, season 10 (double digits, baby)

- 10:00 pm — Grey's Anatomy, season 23, because ABC believes in aftercare
A first-responder mothership entering its tenth season, a spinoff that earned a same-night slot in year two, and a scheduling strategy best described as "what if one network evening were also a group therapy session." October 15 can't come fast enough.
