A Brilliant Thai Movie That Will Make You Ugly Cry Hits Netflix This Month

Watching tearjerkers from time to time can even be therapeutic, so don't miss the chance to catch this near-perfect family drama as it lands on the platform.
Major streaming platforms are no strangers to adding foreign movies and TV shows to their libraries. But, of course, the preference goes to those that are big hits with audiences.
And soon there'll be an impressive addition to Netflix 's already massive library in the form of a 98%-rated Thai movie called How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.
The film is a 2024 hit crafted under the vision of writer-director Pat Boonnitipat, which premiered at the Bangkok International Film Festival. It quickly garnered widespread acclaim and became a box office hit before catching the attention of international audiences.
The film offers an insightful exploration of Thai family dynamics and the complexities of intergenerational relationships. The film follows several key characters, including Putthipong Assaratanakul's (aka Billkin) character M, a university dropout who dreams of striking it rich as a game streamer, and his grandmother Amah, played by Tu Tontawan.
Amah, however, has a unique lifelong desire to be buried on a large plot of land after her death, a goal complicated by the high cost of the burial plot. For a long time, however, the true meaning of this wish remains shrouded in mystery, adding a layer of complexity to the plot.
The film explores themes of family, mortality, and the true meaning of wealth. Billkin's performance as M has been widely acclaimed for capturing his character's frustrations and growth, while Tu Tontawan's portrayal of Amah shines with dignity and depth.
“Watched this today, my tears won’t stop flowing. Now, I’m home and remembering the scenes still brings some tears to my eyes. This is not your typical heavy drama, but the story’s closeness to reality will hit you with realizations that are just going to stir up those emotions well within the depths of your soul,” ArsLongaVitaBrevis_ said.
The film touches on a very delicate subject, the relationship between children and their parents and grandparents. Family values are something that can't be taught by force, each member of any family has to go through a valuable lesson to understand the true meaning and the real power that lies within the bonds of a family.
And How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies does a perfect job of serving as the first step in helping viewers realize this. The movie will be available on Netflix on April 12.
