A Brilliant Thai Movie That Will Make You Ugly Cry Hits Netflix This Month

And soon there'll be an impressive addition to Netflix 's already massive library in the form of a 98%-rated Thai movie called How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.

The film is a 2024 hit crafted under the vision of writer-director Pat Boonnitipat, which premiered at the Bangkok International Film Festival. It quickly garnered widespread acclaim and became a box office hit before catching the attention of international audiences.

The film offers an insightful exploration of Thai family dynamics and the complexities of intergenerational relationships. The film follows several key characters, including Putthipong Assaratanakul's (aka Billkin) character M, a university dropout who dreams of striking it rich as a game streamer, and his grandmother Amah, played by Tu Tontawan.

The core of the story lies in the fact that Amah is fighting with cancer, and there’s no hope she would live much longer. But she is one wealthy grandma, and M wants to make sure he is the one who inherits her house and all the values after she dies. So yes, he cares for his grandmother, but his motives are far from selfless.

Amah, however, has a unique lifelong desire to be buried on a large plot of land after her death, a goal complicated by the high cost of the burial plot. For a long time, however, the true meaning of this wish remains shrouded in mystery, adding a layer of complexity to the plot.

The film explores themes of family, mortality, and the true meaning of wealth. Billkin's performance as M has been widely acclaimed for capturing his character's frustrations and growth, while Tu Tontawan's portrayal of Amah shines with dignity and depth.
