Oh, ‘Friends’… you’ll always be there for us (clapclapclapclap!)

Since the sudden and tragic passing of Matthew Perry, watching old episodes of Friends may feel a little bittersweet. But with the stresses of the holidays upon us, there’s no better way to relax than going back to your favorite 90’s sitcom and re-living Thanksgiving with the gang.

Here’s a complete chronological guide to all 10 episodes of ‘Friends’.

Season 1: The One Where Underdog Gets Away

8.1 on IMDb

Kicking off a holiday tradition, the friends all spend Thanksgiving together instead of traveling home to their families. Kicking off a second tradition, things get dramatic pretty fast. Joey is upset to find that he has become the face of VD on ads all over the city; Chandler explains his hatred of the holiday; and the group gets locked on the roof when they go up to see an escaped balloon from the Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Season 2: The One With The List

8.3 on IMDb

Okay, so this one might not technically be a Thanksgiving episode, but it goes on this list because of the 'Mockolate'. Monica has a job interview, and she has to find a way to bake a new fake-chocolate product into a number of Thanksgiving recipes. Unfortunately, the synthetic food 'tastes like evil' (in Phoebe’s words.) Meanwhile, Ross makes up pro-con lists to try to help himself decide between Rachel and Julie.

Season 3: The One With The Football

8.9 on IMDb

The only Thanksgiving episode that mostly takes place outside of the apartments, this fun installment features a 'friendly' tag football game. Of course, Monica’s intensely competitive nature comes out, especially when playing against her brother. Other rivalries abound too: Rachel is angry that Ross didn’t pick her for his team, and Chandler and Joey go head-to-head. Meanwhile, the turkey is left cooking when a rematch is called.

Season 4: The One With Chandler In A Box

9.0 on IMDb

After Chandler kisses Joey’s girlfriend, he is forced to atone by spending six hours locked in a box. Probably other things happened in the episode, but who can remember? Hearing Chandler’s trademark quips coming from a wooden box makes for an amazingly funny and strange episode, and the joke somehow never gets old.

Season 5: The One With All The Thanksgivings

9.0 on IMDb

Hands-down the most popular episode on our list, this fan-favorite gives us flashbacks of everyone’s worst Thanksgivings. We finally get to see the legendary family dinner that turned Chandler off the holiday forever; Phoebe remembers two of her past lives (she lost an arm in both); and we learn that Monica once cut off one of Chandler’s toes.

Season 6: The One Where Ross Got High

9.1 on IMDb

It’s the episode that launched a thousand memes… when the pages of Rachel’s cookbook are stuck together, she ends up making a combination of Shepard’s Pie and Trifle. If you’re a ‘Friends’ fan, you can probably quote Joey’s reaction by heart. ('What's not to like? Custard, good. Jam, good. Meat, good!') Meanwhile, Chandler learns that Ross’s parents hate him for smoking weed in Ross’s college dorm room (it was Ross himself, of course.)

Season 7: The One Where Chandler Doesn't Like Dogs

8.0 on IMDb

It’s a deep, dark secret that he’s managed to keep hidden all these years… Chandler Bing doesn’t like dogs. Phoebe’s attempt to sneak a pooch into the apartment forces him to admit to this shameful character flaw, while Ross tries to prove he’s worthy of Thanksgiving dinner by naming all 50 states. Meanwhile, Rachel’s attempts to impress her crush Tag are compromised when Joey… well, when Joey acts like himself.

Season 8, The One With The Rumor

9.2 on IMDb

Did you even remember that when Brad Pitt walked through that apartment door, it was part of a Thanksgiving episode? Jennifer Aniston ’s then-husband guest stars as a high school friend of Ross’s, who was ignored by Rachel in high school but grew into a stone-cold fox. Meanwhile, Joey tries to eat an entire turkey by himself.

Season 9: The One With Rachel's Other Sister

If you’re looking for a realistic Thanksgiving (ie one where family shows up and starts a big fight), this is the episode for you. When Rachel’s obnoxious sister Amy (Christina Applegate) invites herself to Thanksgiving, it sparks an argument about who would get custody of Emma if Ross and Rachel died.

Season 10: The One With The Late Thanksgiving

8.8 on IMDb

Monica and Chandler aren’t keen to host Thanksgiving at their apartment, but Phoebe convinces them that it’s their duty. That makes it even more annoying when everyone shows up late: Rachel and Phoebe are entering Emma in a baby beauty pageant, and Ross and Joey are watching a hockey game. Annoyed, Chandler and Monica lock everyone out, but just when it looks like the friends might end on a bad note… they receive word that they have been selected as adoptive parents. Happy Thanksgiving indeed!
