A new spinoff of George Martin’s Game of Thrones is coming to HBO soon, but don’t expect it to follow both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon’s strict rules.

Despite the main series wrapping back in 2019, the Game of Thrones TV universe is well and alive, with one more spinoff show joining House of the Dragon on the list of George Martin’s adaptations on the screen.

Titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, HBO’s upcoming TV series will witness some major events unfolding several decades after the Dance of Dragons and just as many decades before the events of Game of Thrones’s season 1.

Despite already being delayed once, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ premiere now seems to be determined, but the upcoming show has already been confirmed to completely ignore Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon’s best features.

When Does ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Come Out?

Initially slated for a release this fall, the show’s first season will now premiere on January 18, with each episode being released weekly on HBO Max.

This time, Game of Thrones’ spinoff will have little to do with Westeros’ royals and, based on George Martin’s “Tales of Dunk and Egg” novellas, will focus on the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg.

The storyline, however, will still be marked by the Targaryens’ presence, as Egg hides his identity of Prince Aegon Targaryen, the dynasty’s heir who for some reason chooses to stay distant from his family.

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Won’t Have Game of Thrones-Styled Opening Title Sequence

HBO’s upcoming show has been long promoted as something related to Game of Thrones, but still a completely different story about Westeros, and some major proofs didn’t take long to be confirmed by the creators.

According to A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ showrunner Ira Parker, the series’ plot doesn’t need this fancy things that Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon are famous for, now leaning into the life of the most ordinary knight.

“The title sequences on the original [Game of Thrones] and House of Dragon are big and epic and incredible. Ramin Djawadi’s score is orchestral and large and beautiful. That's not really Dunk’s M.O. He’s plain and he’s simple and he’s to-the-point. He doesn't have a lot of flash to him”, Parker said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly recently.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ season 1 is set to premiere on HBO Max on January 18, 2026.
