A Remarkable Place to Die episode 5 explained: one murder, two bodies
The two bodies at the campsite in episode 5 are found lying one on top of the other, and the show calls one of them "innocent."
A Remarkable Place to Die is a New Zealand crime drama created by Philly de Lacey and set in Queenstown, on the country's South Island. Chelsie Preston Crayford plays Anais Mallory, a homicide detective who leaves Sydney and comes home after her sister Lynne dies in a road accident. She takes a job with the local police while quietly investigating Lynne's death and their father's, and the person she suspects is her former fiancé, Luke Staunton, played by Charles Jazz Terrier, now married to her old best friend Maja, played by Indiana Evans.
Which episode 5 this is
The numbering depends on where you're watching. Series 1 first aired on TVNZ 1 in New Zealand in November 2024 as four 90-minute episodes. In the UK, where it airs as eight episodes of about 45 minutes, each original episode is split in two.
That makes the UK's episode 5 the first half of the original third episode, "Out of the Blue," which first aired in New Zealand on November 17, 2024. Episode 6 is its second half, where the case continues.
Anais under scrutiny
The episode opens with Anais in trouble at work. She has planted evidence, and now she's the one being looked at. The UK episode guide puts it plainly: "Anais finds herself under Li Feng's microscope after her illicit planting of evidence."

She doesn't get long to deal with it, because two bodies have been found at a remote campsite.

One murder, two bodies
The scene at the campsite is the whole puzzle of the episode. Two bodies are found, one lying on top of the other, and the way the show describes the case explains how they got there:
- One of the dead is a camper the series calls "innocent," killed by being crushed.
- The case is described as an "instant double homicide": both deaths happen in the same moment.
- The episode is titled "Out of the Blue."
Read together, the clues point to a single killing with two victims: the person someone meant to kill, and the camper who happened to be underneath.
Where it leads
The case doesn't stay at the campsite. The original synopsis says Anais "makes a shocking connection to a tragic incident in her family's past," which ties the new deaths to the investigation she has been running on her own since she came home.
Episode 6 picks up from there. According to its synopsis, Anais turns to the pathologist Dr. Ihaka Cooper, played by Alex Tarrant, for support after "a shocking discovery," and confronts Luke, who is defensive about his apparent connections to the case.
