After 'MobLand' Finale, Jan Is No Longer the Dumbest Character — Kat Is

You can be a little silly if you are a wife of a mob fixer. But if you're the most powerful crime boss in the country? Absolutely no way.
MobLand went out with a bang, releasing its finale on Sunday, June 1. The war between the Harrigans and the Stevensons is finally over, and the Harrigans came out on top. However, many fans are left disappointed with the finale — the show's subreddit is full of posts about how unrealistic and weird episode 10, titled "The Beast in Me", was.
Their biggest disappointment? The way MobLand has instantly turned one of its most intimidating characters into a clown. Because compared to Kat McAllister, even Jan, Harry's wife who seems to have completely forgotten what kind of person she married, can be called somewhat smart.
In episode 10, Kat reaches out to Harry with an offer he seemingly can't reject: help bring the Harrigans down and become the biggest fish in the pond. However, Harry unexpectedly turns the offer down, pledging loyalty to his second family and effectively telling Kat — the Kat he owes not one but two favors — to f*ck all the way off.
What does Kat do about it? Nothing. She only tells him it was "a big mistake". But she lets him walk out of her building, basically giving the Harrigans their smartest and most competent warrior back, even though she had the best opportunity to wipe him out of the picture.
"All that build up around the Kat McAllister character as being a feared, all-powerful something or other, only for Harry to simply tell her to fuck off? And sorry, Janet McTeer’s portrayal is very weak, probably the show’s weakest link. Very disappointing and toothless progression of that story-line so far," Redditor Kcjones4000 said.
Earlier, fans had their own issues with Jan and her questionable decisions, like meeting with Alice outside Cotswolds. However, Jan isn't at least an almost all-powerful entity in criminal London; she is just a distressed wife who lost it and accidentally stabbed her husband.
Basically, Kat's weird decision to let Harry go is easy to explain: MobLand leaves itself room for season 2, and for that to happen, it still needs Tom Hardy's Harry, and a new villain. Moreover, some fans still believe that not all is lost.
"She’s hedging her bets by contacting Seraphina as well. I took it that she kind of expected Harry to be loyal and that’s why she didn’t seem that fussed when he said no. She’ll probably just try and make sure there’s nothing for him to be loyal to," Redditor MeehanTron noted.
At the same time, when speaking to Harry, Kat pretended she didn't know Seraphina's name. Besides, with Harry so confidently rejecting her, fans now believe that he may know something that will help him not lose the war with Kat immediately.
Was 'MobLand' Renewed for Season 2?
No, not at the time of writing. Still, the season finale already has an impressive 8.5 on IMDb, so 'MobLand' has decent chances to get that renewal pretty soon.
The entire show is available for streaming on Paramount+.
