After Multiple Delays, Taika Waititi’s Sci-Fi With Jenna Ortega Finally Gets a Release Window
Jojo Rabbit’s director has been attached to Kazuo Ishiguro’s movie adaptation since 2023, and now the Jenna Ortega-led film has finally received a long-awaited update.
Many anticipated movie and TV projects have been stuck in production heel after massive strikes occurred in Hollywood back in 2023, resulting in a huge part of the industry’s schedule being pushed forward to a couple of years later.
This might have easily become the case for Taika Waititi’s Klara and the Sun, an adaptation of the 2021’s novel of the same name by Kazuo Ishiguro with Jenna Ortega and Amy Adams as its leads.
The talks about Waititi’s next movie have been around since 2023 when the director was rumoured to be in talks for directing the feature.
Two years later, there’s still nothing to say about Klara and the Sun’s release date, but a recent major update on the movie suggests the original novel’s fans won’t have to wait much longer.
Taika Waititi’s ‘Klara and the Sun’ Will Likely Be Released in the Summer of 2026

Even though the director hasn’t yet announced anything regarding Klara and the Sun, World of Reel’s Jordan Ruimy has recently reported that the movie officially received a PG-13 rating from the MPA, meaning that it’s not advised for kids under 13 years old and — what’s much more important — the movie has now wrapped its production and is ready for a release.
According to Ruimy, Waititi’s Klara and the Sun might still enter the program of next year’s Sundance Film Festival which traditionally takes place in January, though a summer release is also a very likely option.
Klara and the Sun stars Jenna Ortega as Klara, a robot meant to ease the loneliness of children who are limited to home studying in the near future.
The moment comes when Klara is finally purchased and is taken home by a woman named Chrissie who gifts the robot to her daughter Josie.
Taika Waititi to Make a Movie About Judge Dredd Next

The director might be busy arranging things for Klara and the Sun’s release right now, but there’s much more to come for Waititi in the upcoming couple of years.
Having directed several movies based on superhero comic books like 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok and 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder, Waititi is now poised to direct a feature about a fictional character named Judge Dredd, as Variety reported back in July.
No more significant details have been revealed about the future film so far, but Waititi’s take on the story might become the most successful one on the long story of the character.
Created in the 1970s by writer John Wagner and artist Carlos Ezquerra, Judge Dredd first appeared on the big screen in 1995’s movie of the same name starring Sylvester Stallone, but failed hard in the box office.
The story was then revived in 2012 by the movie called Dredd which starred Karl Urban, but it wasn’t a financial success either.
