5. 'The Midnight Club', 2022
IMDb Score: 6.5/10
The Midnight Club is an adaptation of Christopher Pike's novel of the same name about seven terminally ill teenagers from a hospice.
The teens agree to meet every night at midnight and tell each other scary stories. During one of these gatherings, they make a pact – the first to die will try to contact the others from the afterlife.
The Midnight Club is scary because, at its core, it is a show about the approach of death and the experience of loss. The kids' nightly meetings always begin with a heartbreaking phrase: "To those before, to those after, to us now, and to those beyond. Seen or unseen, here but not here."
4. 'The Haunting of Bly Manor', 2020
IMDb Score: 7.4/10
The Haunting of Bly Manor is a logical continuation of The Haunting of Hill House, a story about a family reuniting in the face of horror.
This time, Flanagan loosely adapted Henry James's novella The Turn of the Screw. According to the plot, a young woman is hired to be a nanny for the niece and nephew of a London lord, who took them in after their parents died.
Upon arriving at the enormous estate, the woman begins to suspect that evil forces possess the place, and that servants have died there before.
3. 'Midnight Mass', 2021
IMDb Score: 7.7/10
Many years ago, Riley was involved in a drunk driving accident that resulted in a girl's death. After serving time in prison, he returned to his parents' home on Crockett Island.
Father Paul comes to the island with Riley. With Paul's arrival, the settlement is transformed: people are healed of diseases and grow younger. However, it becomes clear that there is more to this than meets the eye.
Midnight Mass is one of the best Stephen King screen adaptations, despite the fact that the show is not based on any of the writer's books. However, it accurately covers all of King's favorite topics.
2. 'The Fall of the House of Usher', 2023
IMDb Score: 7.9/10
In his latest TV work, The Fall of the House of Usher, Flanagan revisits his favorite topics: troubled family relationships, the inevitability of retribution for past sins, and the inevitability of death.
Roderick Usher and his sister are the owners of a large pharmaceutical company. Each of his six children either works for their father or runs their own business. Suddenly, in one week, all of Roderick's children die.
1. 'The Haunting of Hill House', 2018
IMDb Score: 8.5/10
26 years ago, the Crain family moved into Hill House. They planned to restore and sell it, as they had done many times before with other mansions.
However, the family encountered otherworldly forces, which resulted in a tragedy. Although the paths of the surviving Crains had long since diverged, the ominous Hill House remained.
The Haunting of Hill House, Flanagan's first TV series was proclaimed one of the best dramas ever released on Netflix for good reason. The show is about more than ghosts – it's also about family, love, and fear of death.
