American Primeval and Oppenheimer Fans Can’t Stop Talking About This Prime Video Hidden Gem

The show is a certified Rotten Tomatoes hit released 10 years ago.
American history movies and shows never really went down in popularity among audiences, but definitely saw another prime in the recent couple of years.
Among all sorts of new and potentially successful flicks, it was Christopher Nolan ’s Oppenheimer that revived everyone’s interest in the father of the atomic bomb’s story back in 2023.
The trend continues with some fresh releases from Netflix this year, particularly with Peter Berg’s Western-y drama show American Primeval that delves deeper into the country’s history, centring its plot around a major controversy with the LDS Church.
However, those aren’t really big discoveries anymore as fans of both the movie and the series are gushing over a newly found 10-year-old show which, naturally, talks about pretty much the same things.
Manhattan Is Trending Again After Brutal Cancellation Back in 2016
If you have just finished American Primeval and can’t get enough of similar period dramas, this might be a good option too.
Launched in 2014, Manhattan is a historical-ish show, both seasons of which were recently added to Prime Video, and those who have already binge-watched it might have some serious flashbacks.
The series’ storyline primarily revolves around the project of the same name that eventually paved the way for the first atomic weapons’ creation. Despite Manhattan’s pretty realistic plot, most of its characters are fictional, yet Robert Oppenheimer, who helmed the project, also makes an appearance performed by Daniel London.
After joining a vast collection of series on Prime Video, Manhattan has solid chances for getting itself a second life after it was cancelled back in 2016 due to scarce ratings.
Manhattan Is a Critical Darling That Might Be Key to Understanding Similar Stories
The show might have had some rough time with audiences who back in the day weren’t that eager to learn more about atomic bombs anyway, but it was still met with enthusiasm by critics.
On Rotten Tomatoes, Manhattan holds nearly perfect scores of 91% and 90% from critics and viewers respectively, and some of the latter ones repeatedly stated that the series was a great help for those who were scared to not getting anything from Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
Despite its storyline being quite different from the one in American Primeval, Manhattan is still a solid watch for those who are just into period dramas, no matter what era we’re actually talking about.
