The show, helmed by Ridley Scott among others, has just debuted its two first episodes on Apple TV+.

This month has a portion of promising long-awaited premieres on digital platforms, and one of the highly anticipated series is already there for you to check it out.

Directed by The Batman ’s co-writer Peter Craig, the new crime drama also has Ridley Scott on board as one of the execs and stars Narcos’ actor in the leading role.

The show was expected to perform well with critics whatsoever, though it might have just secured raving reviews and a score way better than some expected. The news came several hours before the series’ first two episodes finally premiered on Apple TV+.

Dope Thief Gets an Impressive RT Score on Its Premiere Day

Based on Dennis Tafoya’s 2009 novel of the same name, the show just proved that it’d done an impressive job as Dope Thief is currently holding a critical score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes based on around 20 reviews.

The audiences haven’t had a chance to chime in with their opinions as the series has just had its first two episodes released, though the rating might be expected to appear quite soon.

With its first episode directed by Gladiator and Blade Runner ’s Ridley Scott, Dope Thief is a promising gripping drama unfolding around two friends, portrayed by Brian Tyree Henry and Wagner Moura, who pretend to be DEA agents and robe a drug dealer’s house in an attempt to find some small-time grift.

This, however, does bring its own life-threatening consequences as the characters find out they have crossed paths with very wrong people.

Dope Thief Stars Atlanta and Narcos’ Award-Nominated Actors

Apart from making another compelling story for Apple TV+, the show also has big stars as its leads who fans of shows like Narcos and Atlanta will easily recognise.

Dope Thief’s Wagner Moura could previously be seen in big TV hits like a 2024 spy series Mr. & Mrs. Smith and a 2015 crime drama Narcos; the latter starred Moura as infamous Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and ultimately brought him a bunch of nominations for prestigious awards, including for the Golden Globes back in 2016.

In his turn, Brian Tyree Henry is mostly famous for his role of Alfred "Paper Boi" Miles in a 2016 comedy drama show Atlanta, created by and starring Donald Glover.

Dope Thief bringing two big TV stars together on the screen might be another reason for the show’s successful start ahead of the first season’s run till April 25.
