The new Avatar series puts an exact number on its time jump, and a little arithmetic with that number raises a question the first season doesn't answer.

Avatar: Seven Havens, created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, premiered on Paramount+ on October 9, 2026. Its 13-episode first book wrapped on October 30, and Paramount+ has renewed the series through Book 4. The hero is Pavi (Saheli Khan), a young earthbender living on the streets of Ellora, a city built into slot canyons, who discovers she's the next Avatar after Korra. In this world, that makes her the most hated person alive.

The answer: about 225 years

Executive producer Sehaj Sethi gave the number in an interview with Polygon.

"Avatar: Seven Havens takes place about 225 years after Legend of Korra ends," Sethi said.

The Legend of Korra ended with Korra at 21. In the centuries since, something called the Cataclysm shattered both the physical world and the Spirit World. The survivors live in seven fortified cities, the Havens, surrounded by a dustbowl lashed by storms, and a bending Brigade recruits young benders to defend them.

The world also went backward. Where Korra looked like the 1920s, Seven Havens is closer to pre-industrial fantasy. Producer Ethan Spaulding told Polygon the show has "more of a fantasy look to the overall look of the Havens and clothing."

Why everyone hates the Avatar

Most people in the Havens blame Korra for the Cataclysm, and Ellora celebrates her defeat. Characters describe her as "vanquished" or "defeated." The show hasn't said she caused it, and season 1 only shows her in fragments: a brief flashback in episode 7, and a silent appearance as a spirit in the finale, pointing Pavi toward the Floating Isles.

The creators deliberately made the new hero smaller than her predecessors.

"We settled on Pavi, a girl who lives in hiding," DiMartino told Polygon.

She is also "younger than both Aang and Korra," he said.

Pavi is 9. And she isn't the only one. The premiere reveals that Pavi has a long-lost twin sister, Nisha (Aishu Devan), and that Nisha is also the Avatar, the first twin Avatars in the franchise.

The math that doesn't add up

The Avatar is reincarnated when the previous one dies. Earth comes after water in the cycle, so an earthbender following Korra fits. The dates don't.

If the twins are 9 and the show is set 225 years after Korra's finale, they were born about 216 years after it. For Korra to have died right before their birth, she would have lived to about 237. The longest-lived Avatar in the franchise so far is Kyoshi, at 230.

The show leaves that open. Nobody says when Korra died, why the cycle produced two Avatars, or what happened in the roughly two centuries between her story and theirs. The finale answers a different mystery, the twins' separation and the loss of their parents, and pushes the Korra question into Book 2.

DiMartino has said Book 2 is fully written and in production. There's no release date yet.
