A famous industry insider gives a disheartening update about the movie’s state.

Summary:

  • One of the most popular soulslike video games, Bloodborne is getting a movie adaptation in the near future.
  • According to insider Daniel Richtman, the moviemakers are leaning too much into the gameplay mechanics, a decision that ruined many adaptations.
  • Earlier, Richtman revealed that Bill Skarsgård would play the main character and Adam Wingard was in talks to direct Bloodborne the Movie.

In the past few years, we’ve seen a massive surge in video game adaptations. No, scratch that; we’ve seen a massive surge in good video game adaptations. The first attempts to turn popular games into movies began long ago, but it took ages for moviemakers to find the optimal approach and stop producing second-hand embarrassment pretending to be a film.

From The Super Mario Bros. & The Angry Birds animated movies to massive-scale adaptations like Tom Holland ’s Uncharted and Pedro Pascal ’s The Last of Us, this genre has come a truly long way. But admittedly, some moviemakers are still making the same old mistakes — at least, according to Daniel Richtman, the industry insider.

The Bloodborne Movie Reportedly Went Off-Track

One of the grimmest and most atmospheric video games out there, Bloodborne is popular all over the world, and making it into a movie was a bold choice to begin with. Such adaptations are really hard to nail, considering the plentiful details and lore, and reportedly, Bloodborne the Movie is already going off-track in this regard.

Recently, the famous Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman shared an update about Bloodborne on his Patreon. According to him, the movie is leaning too much into the “technical” aspects of the game, meaning its mechanics and gameplay. This is not something fans want to see in an adaptation, and it could turn out disastrous.

Bloodborne Can Still Turn in the Right Direction

Admittedly, it’s not too late to change the direction of the movie: as far as we’re aware, it hasn’t even begun pre-production yet. Even the information about Godzilla vs. Kong’s Adam Wingard potentially directing it and Bill Skarsgård playing the main character came from Daniel Richtman and hasn’t been officially confirmed yet.

In the perfect world, Bloodborne the Movie will drop the gameplay mechanics almost entirely and focus on the lore and story behind the game’s grim world. We don’t need to watch Skarsgård roam the map fighting off countless enemies or staking up modifiers to defeat bosses; but if he roams the map on a quest of his own, it could make for an interesting and captivating experience.
