The Danny Reagan star Donnie Wahlberg revealed the heartbreaking truth about the Blue Bloods cancellation.

Summary:

  • Blue Bloods will officially end after Season 14 as CBS announced in December 2023.
  • Tom Selleck has been vocal about his disagreement with the decision to cancel the series.
  • Recently, Donnie Wahlberg shared that the Blue Bloods cast and crew had become a real family to each other, and it would be awful to lose that.

CBS’s popular police procedural show Blue Bloods has had a 14-year-long run at this point, and it’s bound to end with Season 14. This decision stirred up quite some backlash from fans and cast alike, as Blue Bloods has become an essential part of many people's lives both on and off-set.

Blue Bloods Cancellation Isn’t a Popular Decision

Immediately after CBS announced that Blue Bloods Season 14 would be the finale of the TV show, fans launched a Change.org petition to save the series from cancellation. At the time of writing, it has already collected almost four thousand signatures despite being almost exclusively discussed on the show’s subreddit.

Tom Selleck, the lead star of Blue Bloods and the Frank Reagan star, is also pretty vocal about his disagreement with the decision and claims he’s “not done” with the show, and neither is his character. Other actors admittedly support their on and off-screen patriarch as they’ve always suggested Blue Bloods keep going as long as Selleck wants it to.

In a recent interview with Fox News, another Blue Bloods star, Donnie Wahlberg voiced his opinion on the matter. The Danny Reagan star didn’t directly address the cancellation but gave a heartwarming insight into the cast’s relationship on the set, calling him and his co-stars a “real family” that has come together over the years.

“Tom Selleck, I call him Dad. <...> It's like, we've gotten so close. He's literally like, ‘Oh, hey, son, how are you doing today?’ It's like, we've just become a real family, and it's going to be a lot to not be with [them] anymore, but I'm sure we'll stay connected after the cameras aren't rolling,” Wahlberg shared during the interview.

The actor explained that the entire cast and crew felt like a real family, and the Blue Bloods famous dinner scenes were just as important for him and his colleagues as they were for their characters. “[It’s like] the family gets together once a week to catch up, to talk about things, to talk about what's going on in their lives,” he added.
