Now that’s the Netflix trend that has to go.

Summary:

  • Bridgerton is a romantic period drama produced by Netflix and Shondaland, based on Julia Quinn's book series of the same name.
  • Back in the summer of 2023, there was a leak from Netflix's official account that listed the release date as December 14.
  • The new leak, this time from an official Bridgerton account, promises the release of season 3 in May and June 2024, split into two parts.

If two fandoms seem to be suffering the most from Netflix's sloppy release practices right now, it has to be Stranger Things and Bridgerton. While only one of the shows requires a lot of CGI, special effects, and unique set design, it's hard to put your finger on exactly what's taking Bridgerton so long to release.

The long gap between the first season, released in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic, and the second was understandable. There were so many restrictions put in place to make the production safe for everyone that it was impossible to speed things up.

However, looking back at Shonda Rhimes' promise to speed up production, it doesn't sound so promising anymore. March 2024 will mark the 2-year anniversary of the release of Bridgerton season 2, but no one is ready to celebrate, as there are still a full two months to go until the premiere of season 3.

Bridgerton Season 3 Premiere Date Leak

While fans have already been taught not to believe every leak they see by the infamous TUDUM incident, which promised that the show would return on December 14th, this time the information seems a little more believable.

While setting up the new branding for Bridgerton's official account on X (formerly known as Twitter), the header of the profile was changed to a banner stating the premiere dates. According to the banner, Bridgerton, like many other Netflix series, has been split into two parts, which will be released on May 16, 2024 and June 13, 2024.

While it doesn't seem like much of a wait between two installments, viewers who have been waiting for so long and now face another six months without content felt this update hit them like a ton of bricks. Of course, there is a glimmer of hope that this could mean a longer season, but the chances are very slim.

Overall, the fandom agrees that this decision is likely a manipulation to get people to keep their Netflix subscriptions active for more than a month. Just like other shows, Bridgerton seems to be falling victim to the same streamer schemes.

What's interesting is that the banner with the release date information was almost immediately changed to an empty one, so the new one can hardly be called official yet. To see if anything changes, or if Netflix and Shondaland confirm May and June as the premiere months for Bridgerton, be sure to keep an eye out for any news and updates.
